Steven, what is the best way to contact you? I e/mailed you yesterday, but I haven't heard back. I was curious of pricing and availability. Also would you do stabilization of customers wood? I have 40 pounds of cherry burl that I found during deer hunting this year. If you would contact me at Mark@Hallada.Com I'd appreciate it. Thanks Mark Re: Need larger pieces of stabilized wood???

Bill: By Juniper I assume you are referring to Red Cedar? Juniper is a wood term that applies to several different species. Thanks!

I've had some Juniper stabilized and it takes on a real dark color that isn't satisfactory for my purposes. Stan Grace Helena, MT "Our best is none too good" Re: Need larger pieces of stabilized wood???

Rocky Mountain Juniper locally referred to as cedar is the species I use. It is similar to cedar but is not related. Stan Grace Helena, MT "Our best is none too good" Re: Need larger pieces of stabilized wood???

Stan,
Is the Juniper you use Red Cedar? The only other thing I've hears it referred to as, is the weed of trees in the west. I do know that it has a somewhat Cedar smell when turning, but not as strong as true aromatic Cedar. Bill in WV Re: Need larger pieces of stabilized wood???

Here is some information on Juniper that grows here in the west, or the left coast as it is known by some here, [oregonstate.edu] . It is widely used by many craftsmen here in Central Oregon for custom furniture, natural rock fireplace mantels, picture frames and a much more, even flooring planks. It is also used for fence posts. As you have seen from Stan's pictures it make beautiful fly rod grips and reel seats..

I too absolutely LOVE burl wood and would love to find a source of larger stabilized pieces.1 1/4" square or larger by 7" long or longer would be great.
California Buckeye Burl(the color range of this wood is amazing),Amboyna Burl,Back Ash Burl,Box Elder Burl, and Maple Burl are some of my favorites. Re: Need larger pieces of stabilized wood???

Just to throw my 2 cents in.
I have been buying large stabilized pieces from Wood Stabilization Specialist International up in Iowa. Mike Ludeman is the owners name. GIve him a call and tell him what you need. He is a great guy to work with and he is ultra picky about the quality of burl he stabilizes to sell. For larger diameter rod handle stock I buy pool que blanks. They tend to run in the 1 1/2 " square to 12" square range and lengths from 12" to 24". Mike will also stabilize your wood for you if you have a nice piece of burl you would like to have treated.
