Well, today has not been the best day. To top it off, my wife and I share office and shop space and she saw these all happen....
Rule #1 - Don't touch the new shiny stuff on the wraps. Some days I have to tell myself this one every hour or so throughout the day. Rule #2 - Let the hot glue cool for 10 or 15 seconds before you try to remove the excess. You want to remove it while it is still soft, but molten is not such a good idea. Rule #3 - Never, under any circumstances, grab the hot metal end of the heat gun. On the positive side, it does not take long to inspect the gun if you do this. Enough said. Rule #4 - Wrap the guide on the correct flat on the bamboo blank. I thought it looked weird? That's pretty much my Friday. How about you? Joe Douglas Re: Rules for Rod Building

LOL. Especially the Cheetos...I can just imagine the results.
Mine, don't hold the tip top with your bare fingers when you are using heat to remove it from a broken piece of blank. Sure beginner mistake, but we all learn the hard way sometimes.... right? I think it is called experience. Re: Rules for Rod Building

# 87 Never remove a kite from a tree with a 2 pc graphite 13 ft'r unless u wrap the ferrule first...stick with the one peice.
#88 when testing the drag of a reel and strength of a rod...make sure your son wears a helmet before you say "RUN" (and looks both ways) #89 never make a fancy tie off loop...you'll loose it like the sock that disappears in the dryer #90 always cut AWAY from flesh when using a sharp object # 91 keep augmented , non male body parts away from wraps....its a silicone "fisheye" thing. NERB that types with a bar of Ivory soap in his mouth. Re: Rules for Rod Building

1. Remember to put cap back on U-40 after you're finished
2. Do not allow a wet dog in the room you're drying a rod in 3. Don't get caught using your wife's sewing stuff for rod building 4.Never drink and epoxy at the same time Re: Rules for Rod Building

#100 When you put a fly rod with a removable butt in your drying box and it is spinning properly, remember that in a few minutes after you close your box, the butt will be loose and the rod will NOT be spinning properly (or at all). This will only happen when you were in a hurry to leave your house and could not double check the rod either. Re: Rules for Rod Building

#102 - Lights attract bugs. Turn off the light over the rod dryer at night! If there is one bug in the house he will find your rod. Re: Rules for Rod Building

# 103 Don't use cheap sewing machine thread as your sacrificial thread on a tiger wrap. The keeper thread will trap the fuzzies and the results look like my aunt Barbara's upper lip. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
