I just received this double rod dryer. Can anyone tell me how you attach the rod to the dryer the rubber on the motor looks really small. Any and all help would be greatly apprieciated. Brent Keever Building friendships through custom rods Re: Sully double rod dryer

Been a while since I was around a Sully, but I think it has crutch tips for putting the end of the rod in. If your building heavy fresh or saltwater rods I can see where that set up would be to small for a big gimbal or blank end in. I think one of the holders made out of an ABS pipe cap and thumb screws would fit right on there easily. Re: Sully double rod dryer

Brent: It will be easy to make what you need. Use an oversize PVC threaded pipe cap. Drill a hole in the end for attachment to the coupler on your dryer device. Use some high density poly foam or Buna N rubber inserts the will fit inside the female part. I have some here if you want to come take a look. Look on the Photo Board Tools Section and you will see many examples. Re: Sully double rod dryer

Brent,
I just retrofitted my Sully with the PVC chucks shown in Rodmaker Vol 10 Issue 4. For the attachment to the Sully, I started with a 1/2" thick pine disk shaped to fit inside the back of the PVC. I turned the disk on a lathe so only 1/4" of it went inside the PVC, the remaining 1/4" was turned to the outside diameter of the PVC, creating a shoulder for a better glue joint. Drill a 3/4" hole in the center of the disk, glue a 1" long piece of 3/4" dowell in the hole, and epoxy the disk with the dowell into the back end of the PVC. This chuck works really well in the Sully. You can also make a chuck from a 1/2" thick pine disc with the 3/4" dowell glued in he center, and small srews partly inserted in 4 equidistant spots around the circumference of the disk, for holding a blank with 4 rubber bands. This chuck works better for some applications than the tapered dowell things that came with the Sully. Good luck, Tom White Re: Sully double rod dryer

Thanks for all the suggestions. Looks like I will go with the pvc chuck and make the alteration to the dryer. I should have done a little more research and found what I needed with out having to alter it. But this one will be just fine once I make the alterations.
