first let me say the i dreaded this project really bad and now that i am almost finshed its been the easiest of all the other rods i have built, thanks to you guys.
i am to the ferruel in the wrapping process. is 1/8" close enough with my finish to get to the end?
should it be a different colored thred on the ferruel or would it be OK to wrap it the same as the guides?

Thread color makes no difference - that's just personal preference. Whatever you think looks good. You could even wrap it with a color similar to the rod, not use CP, and allow it to bleed into roughly the same look at the blank at that point.

The purpose of a ferrule wrap is to prevent a split-out. And such a thing can only start at the very edge of the ferrule. This is why you want that wrap as close to the edge as possible. Get it within 1mm or so and you'll have done about all you can do. 1/8th inch is close, but if you can go just a tad closer you'll be a little safer. The finish itself isn't really doing much, so you'll want the thread to actually be that close.

OK , thats what i will try and do, i will run the wrap as close as i can and i guess i could put a piece of tape over the end cap of the ferruel, or keep a close eye and not let any excess get into the hole.
thanks Tom you have been really suportaive, as well as all the others that have helped.

You should be able to just apply finish to the very edge, It's not likely that any is going to get down into the opening unless you get sloppy.
