new concept guides for fly rods

on my next 8' 5wt. cane rod i would like to try this.but was wondering about snake guide size and the number of guides to use.just want to get a starting point so i cane play with it. thank steve kiley Re: new concept guides for fly rods

I'm not sure about fly rods, but, I believe the one guide for every foot of length + 1 and the tip are still an acceptable starting point. If that was your question. Bill in WV Re: new concept guides for fly rods

A size 6 ceramic guide is about the same size as a #1, Size 7 ceramic a size #2, Size 8 a size #3, seeing a pattern? Re: new concept guides for fly rods

If you wish to use the New Concept Guides, you would not be using snake guides. I guess I don't really understand your question.

hi tom i want to use the choke point and running guides , i use 1/0 snakes now.i think i need the number of running guides and i can take i from there. this is for a bamboo fly rod so want to use snakes. thanks steve Re: new concept guides for fly rods

You would have to use a spinning reel for that system. There is no choke point on a fly rod/fly reel combination.
The only portion of the NGC that really applies to fly rods would be in the area of guide sizes. You only need three - your butt guide, an intermediate guide and then get right down to the smallest guides you intend to use (running guides). Skip all the silly in-between sizes.
