I make lots and lots of walleye rods.
For spinning rods, I have a standard back grip of 7 inches. For casting rods, I have a standard back grip of 9 inches. If I find that the tip is going to be tip heavy, I will back weigh the rod a bit to off set the tip weight rather than extending the butt length. It makes no sense to either myself or my clients to take a 7'6" lindy rigging rod and then put a two foot handle on it. Effectively, you are still only using a 6'6" rod. Why give up the extra rod length by adding a long handle. I find the same to be true for salmon rods that are in the 9 to 10 foot length. I keep the back grip the same and then just back weigh the rod to keep the tip from being heavy. I have seen so many 9 foot salmon rods, with 2 1/2 foot handles. Guess what, you are still fishing with a 6 1/2 foot rod. Take care Roger Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
