I've been looking for a blank to throw light weight a long way - will this work? Can I take an offset ferrule blank like a GUSA Surf Assassin or a Seeker CSU "British" style blank and extend the butt section to near the length of the tip? Particularly on the Seeker, I would think the butt section is already way stiff. Wouldn't this give me a really fast rod well suited for ~2oz? Re: Surf Blank Extension Idea

Maybe. You don't want to extend a blank too far. Did you read the article on extending blanks in RodMaker? It goes into detail on what blanks are suitable for extending and which aren't, as well as how to do it.

Yes, I have that one and have pulled it out to re-read it. I'm thinking about something on the order of 18" - something like a 24" extension piece overlapping the bottom of the blank 6" with the reel seat immediately in front of that. I suppose the reel seat could even overlap the extension and blank which would probably give additional reenforcement. Re: Surf Blank Extension Idea

I put the reel seat over the overlap for reinforcement. Hasn't failed in 20 years. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
