I have recently started building 2 pc. walleye spinning rods by trimming the butt off of 9' steelhead blanks. This places the ferrule in the butt section of the rod, and all the guides on the top section.
The rods really feel like 1 pc., lighter, no flat spot in the middle, and are still really easy to transport. I also have an old fiberglass Wonder Rod that has this design, gotta be 30+ years old, so this is not a new idea. Is there a reason manufacturers don't use this design more? Most people want multi-piece rods with as short sections as possible. When you make a blank with an offset ferrule - short butt, long tip, it tends to negate the very reason for using a multi-piece blank in the first place. For most consumers, having shorter equal length sections fills the bill for airline travel or storage in a small car or trunk.
However, you do see this design on many saltwater surf blanks where the customer is only interested in having the longest section short enough to somehow get in his car or truck for a trip to the beach. So you often see 11" surf rods with 4' butts and 7' tip sections. It fits the needs of what the customer is wanting to do. ............ Re: Best 2pc blank design?

For walleye(or another fish) you can build easy spinning rod on fly blank 2-4piece(or more) .Because i like to fish on the bank with light and longer rods(10'-16') on jigs for white bass ,speckled trout, flounder ,red fish, drum etc. i have buliding myself rods using fly blanks+extension and am very happy with this rods.
If you like shorter rod use shorter 2-4piece fly blanks to build your spinning rods Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
