Jean Guide spacing is done by true custom rod builders by following the blanks curves and not a standard cookie cutter spacing. Every blank is different and that includes blanks of the same brand and model. take the time to read some of the library of these sites on how to space and you will build a truly custom and quality rod that you can be proud of and will be a fishing tool and not a cookie. If you need help then by all means e-mail me your questions.

Email Dan for the spacings he uses.

It's always a good idea to use these kinds of spacings as a starting point and then do your own tests, but I think you will find Dan's spacings awfully close.

Sorry for my english... I'm french ;-)

I already built several blank : the last one was a IMX 9' 7wt... I use this spacing : 4; 9 ; 15 ; 22 ; 30 ; 38 1/2 ; 47 1/2 ; 56 3/4 ; 66 1/8 ; 76

But each blank is optimized for specific values :
In a old post for a 9ft 5wt Dan Craft FT, I find this : 4.125; 9; 14.375; 20.375;27.125; 34.75; 43.625; 53.875; 65.5; 77.5
I think it's really close

Are the guide spacing the same for SigV?

Billy, I look into the library but found nothing about guide spacing for the blank Dan Craft

Tony, I can't email Dan : Dan do not received some french email

I imagine that Dan Craft's spacing will work great, but you can also read Tom Kirkman's article on Static Guide Placement to see how to customize the spacing; that Tom's method will allow you to do it for any blank you ever happen to build on.

The FT and SIG V are VERY different blanks so I would be quite surprised if the same spacings would be ideal for both.

The FT has a very stiff butt section, with a soft tip so it is a very fast action, while the medium fast action SIG V bends further down the blank.I haven't built a new 4pc SIG V yet,but have a couple of the previous 3pc 9ft 5wt SIG V's,as well as a 4pc 9ft 5wt FT and the spacings on each are very different from each other.

If Erik sent you Dan's recommendation then I would start out with that and double check it with your own tests.

Eric, In the email you send me, there are many references for the 9' (but without differents models)

I find :

9’0" 4pc : 4.75", 9.75", 15", 21", 28.25", 36.5", 44.5", 53.5", 64", 76"

9’0" 4pc : 5, 10.25, 15.875, 21.5, 27.5, 34.25, 42.625, 53.375, 65.625, 78.875

9’0" 4pc : 4.25, 9, 14.125, 20, 26.5, 34, 42.625,53.25, 64, 76.5

Wich is the good for the sigV?

For the moment I will test the last... ;-)

NB : I hope that these data are not confidential and that we can diffuse them on this forum?

J.C.,

Sorry I can't help more. I just forwarded the info that I had received from Dan when I purchased my last blank.

Although, I would start with this. As the rest seem to be for the Sig III models.

9’0” 4pc
4.75”, 9.75”, 15”, 21”, 28.25”, 36.5”, 44.5”, 53.5”, 64”, 76”

Erik

I sent you another email.

I just built this and LOVE it! Here are the spacings I started with. Dan indicated that these were specifically for the 4 pc Sig V 9' 4 and 5 wt's.

SV9044 and SV9054: 4.75, 9.75, 15.125, 21, 27.5, 34.5, 43.825, 54.5, 66.25, 79.75

I ended up moving a couple guides less than half an inch and one just over an half an inch.
