I just went down to the Madeira office in Singapore and got the color card for polyneon..
just curious, are their metallics usable for rod building purposes? off topic, 1 cone of 2500m cost only SGD3.25, maybe around USD2.00.. only thing is that since i am not a shop, i'll have to collect the threads from their office. the lady who handled me, didnt believe that madeira could be used for wrapping fishing rods and gave me a 100yd (?) ,#1733 spool to try out.. - Give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day.. ok ok, now a valid question..
i noticed that madeira has 2 types of metallics, one normal and one FS metallic.. which one should/could be used for rod building ? - Give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day.. Teach a man to fish, he'll be broke! Re: madeira metallics

Christopher: I use the Madeira FS metallics, but only in decorative wraps. I don't use it for guide wraps. John Re: madeira metallics

I've used lots of the supertwists on guide wraps. They work fine, I guess. If the color is available in Sulky, I'd rather use their's, though. But Madeira has sooooo many more metallic colors available than Sulky does...
The Madeira metallic threads did give me problems with some "fisheyes" in the finish eventually. Seemed like out of, say, seven guide wraps, two would have a fisheye on them with certain spools of this thread that I have. I didn't have the problem with the first spools of threads that I had, but ran into it later on with others. I've not used CP over these yet, have been able to "babysit" my finish and keep dragging it back into the fisheyed area and always got by doing that. Time consuming, but worked well for me. I learned from others that it seems to be a crapshoot with the Madeira spools as to whether they cause these fisheye problems. Again, I try to use Sulky as much as I can now to avoid the time spent babysitting. Putter Williston, ND Re: madeira metallics

i did some test wraps with the sample spool i got (#1733)
silver underwrap (CPed) with #1733 overwrap (no cp) - no fisheye, bit of candy effect #1733 (CPed) - no fisheye, color looks great #1733 (no cp) -fisheyed, but second application went well.. , color went very dark .. all were wrapped on a brown glossy scrap rod.. - Give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day..
