i just ordered up a telescoping 7'6" blank but i have no clue as to how to build on it....could you guys give me some pointers, pictures to follow or something? How far down do you put the guides, etc etc....

Basically you build the handle on the short butt end and the guides on the blank portion. Make sure you put the blank portion in before you put on the butt cap. You may not be able to get the first guide from the reel exactly where you may want it and keep the guide from hitting the butt section when you colapse the rod. I usually put the first guide at a point so it will not hit the butt section. Other than that you build it as normal.

do you have any reference pictures at all? Im curious because i wonder where the guides actually go....surely the first two guides dont go into the bigger portion, right?

If it's a 1+ flippin stick, you build it like any rod only the first guide should be an inch or two forward of the butt section of the blank when closed

Anyone know which vendors sell these telescoping blanks? Wonder if there'll be any at the show.

the guides will not go down into the butt section...slide the top piece which should be
the longest piece through the butt section...put a piece of tape on the butt section to
hold the top piece into place...you should locate your first guide on the top section
somewhere in this location...with the top section retracted so that the guide does
not hit the butt section and the top section will retract all the way down into the butt
section...when you extend rod the first guide will be a good distance from the butt
section...calculate where you need to locate guides...the purpose of a telescope
rod is so when the rod is retracted you can store in a rod locker in a boat...i fish
for bass most of the pitching-flipping rods are 7'-6" when extended and retract
down to 7' or less...good luck...

one additional item, wrap the end of the butt section with thread at minimum length of 1/2 of the section's diameter. This will help eliminante any splits.

It's always a good idea to glue some type of stopper or plug into the butt section, after the top section has been inserted all the way thru. Then you do not knock the butt cap off, every time you collapse the top section down. Clyde -- there will be some of these type blanks at the show in High Point.

Who sells telescoping blanks?

We offer telescopic blanks by every blank manufacturer that we represent. They all have them that I am aware of. Batson/Rainshadow, Graphite USA, G*Loomis, Lamiglas, Pac Bay & St. Croix are the ones we carry. Most all those type blanks are the longer pitchin & flippin blanks. There are also some of the trolling and salt blanks offered by a few companies. when looking thru the specifications of blanks and where sections are listed, it will usually indicate 1+ under sections.

Clyde -- 1+ stands for, the 1 top section of the blank + the bottom extension piece. For instance, on a 7'-6" bass flippin stick blank, the top section is around 6 ft or so and the bottom extension, that slips over the top section is usally 24" or so. The rod collapses down to 6 ft., but then when the extesoin is pulled out and fully locked into position, you have a 7'-6" rod. When the top section is pulled out thru the bottom extension, about 6" or so of tthe top section is over-lapped by the extension. It is then a friction fit to hold together as one unit then. I understand that all this may sound confusing, but when you come to the show, we can show you a blank and make it easier to understand.
