Magnifing lamp

I purchased what I thought was a good magnifer for close up wrapping but it wasn't. Can someone recommend a good magnifier lamp that the head doesn't loosen and drops out of position. Thanks so much. Steve

Steve,
I bought a cheap one at Staples for about $20. It works perfectly and doesn't loosen a bit. Randy.

Its not from a sponsor, but I use the one Cabelas sells, it is even marked down now on their web site. It is a magnifying lamp that clamps to the table.

I used one for a while, it was a good one and it worked ok, but then switched to the Opti-Visor for magnification, used with any independent lamp or lighting arrangement. I won't go back, this is a much better solution for vision problems, mine at least. Much more freedom of movement and of blank positioning. Your hands have more room in the working area also.

I agree with Tom Doyle. My magnifying lamp is laying in the closet. I use the headband style magnifiers and swing arm lamps on my work bench now. I won't ever switch back.

I have a nice big daylight magnifier/lamp.... and I rarely take it out of the closet now since buying an Optisight. It is like the Optivisor, but without the big shield. Comes with 3 different powers of lenses. The lenses are plastic, but have had no problems with them at all. Very light and I often forget I have them on.

Tom, Randy, Dave,
With the headband style magnifiers, what power would you recommend?

My Optisight came with 1.75x, 2x, and 2.5x lenses. I've only been using the 1.75x because it has the longest focal point. With that power, I can read the imprint on a 1/16" drill bit just barely.
Nice part of the kits with multiple lenses is you can use what you like and what fits the task.

The power? It depends a lot on your eyes. Also, be aware, you can use the Optivisor over your regular reading or computer glasses (or bifocals, I guess). I started with a #5, that proved too much for me, now use a #3, usually together with my computer glasses.

I use the visor mostly, but I also have one of the Ott flip up work lights and their 3 power magnifier lens on a snake stalk/clip that help with some jobs.

The one I'm using came from Mark & Colleen at @#$%& It has a box with 4 different lenses; different magnifications. I just chose one that works for me and haven't switched since. Problem is my wife always wanting to steal it for doing her craft work... I need to get her one, too, don't I?
