How many guides should go on a 10ft spinning rod used primarily for salmon fishing.
Anyone know of any measuring charts for guide placement to give me a starting point before I do line/guide testing? Re: 10ft spinning rod guides

I would use 10 as a starting point and go from there. I would use the New Concept system in the library at the top Mike (Southgate, MI) If I don't want to, I don't have to and nobody can make me (except my wife) cuz I'm RETIRED!! Re: 10ft spinning rod guides

10 is a good starting point. But it's the wrong question.
Instead, ask how big the stripper should be, how big the tip will be, and what layout and progression of sizes works with the particular blank to keep the line from touching the rod (no flat spots), when using the typical reel appropriate for this rod (i.e., a 2000-size, 4000-size, or if it's a casting layout, a 5500 or other similar reel). Just another way to think about it. If you're gonna use a formula, or build a truly custom rod? Uncle Russ Calico Creek Rods Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
