Can anyone advise on reel seats?
Last time I made up 2 rods, I used Struble U-20 and U-15 reel fittings. I was very disappointed to find that my Greys GTX and Sage 2560 reels would not sit properly in them, both reel fiitings being to large and the reels rotate quite a few degrees side-to-side; I thought that all reel fittings were to a standard size nowadays. As I cannot buy decent reel seats locally in the Uk I have to go mail order, so I might as well buy from the good old USA. I would like some advice on a good quality nickle silver uplocking seat to put on a 5 wt sage XP blank that I have just bought that will nicely hold a sage reel; can anyone recommend such a reel seat that will give me confidence that it will fit correctly! The reel seat on my Redington CPS fits perfectly! Does anyone know who makes them? Mark Re: Brit buying fly reel seat - size variation?

lol, have had that side to side problem before. I have cut small tapered wedges out of stiff rubber 1/2" long 1/8" wide (or whatever you need to make up per side and 3/16" tall) then with the reel in place and centered, start wedging them in on each side so the wedges maining hold up and down not pressing against the reel foot (side to side) There is some presssure in that direction but not enough so you can't remove and then reinstall the reel foot. It takes a bit of doing and some small tools. But once the wedges are located and pressed in you can cut them off flush with the reel seat hood and no one is the wiser.
