Hello all,
I'm having a heck of a time trying to find the Cape Fear Nextex fly blanks for marlin. I understand the company it not producing any blanks right now. Im looking for a 1 piece fly blank for marlin, blues in the 250# range. I was thinking of the Cape Fear 15/16 wt. and the 17/19 wt. Can anyone suggest a comparable blank or know where I can obtain a couple of these (at least 1 of each)? Your help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time. One of the sponsors to the left that used to carry Cape Fear may still have one in the back. ACK Fishing, Mudhole and Merrick through one of their dealers like ACK Fishing, or Summer Moon. Lamiglas makes a bluewater blank that I've heard good things about. Marlin sticks have been made on the backbouncing blanks for salmon. Re: Cape Fear, Marlin fly blanks???

Cape Fear has gone out of business...so the scuttlebutt says...who knows what's going to happen there.
Don't overlook CTS for a heavy fly blank. If they don't already have what you want, they would probably custom make you one...now wouldn't THAT be cool? Good luck. Jay Re: Cape Fear, Marlin fly blanks???

Graphite USA used to make them up to an 18 wt if I remember right, but I don't think they were 1 piece. The rods I've seen were just used to throw a fly back as they pulled the teaser away, I don't think you need much of a true fly blank for that, other blanks would work just as well if not better. Get away from the fly discription and blanks seem to get cheaper fast and your selection broadens. Re: Cape Fear, Marlin fly blanks???

Thanks guys, I appreciate the responses. I'm going to do a little more looking and post some findings. Have any idea what a 15 wt. rod would equate to? maybe a rod rated for 30#-50#? I'm asuming a moderate/fast action would probably be best..

I think you may be over estimating the power of the fly rod blanks a little. I think a 15 wt would be lighter than a 20 lb wt class. Something in the range of a MH 10 to 20 lb, 1/2 to 1 1/2 oz, salmon/steelhead blank. Re: Cape Fear, Marlin fly blanks???

Keep in mind the size class tippet that will be used. You don't want your rod to overpower that light piece of line.
