Matte finish...wraps

How would you go about making your guide wrap finish matte? I'm wanting to do a rod with black wraps but I don't want them shiny. I've seen some wraps that were finished in a dull matte and I'm not sure how to accomplish this.

Hi Jay,

NCP thread sometimes has a matte-like appearance......almost like tape. However if you want a true matte finish you can use OOOO steel wool on your thread finish to lightly remove the glossy appearance. Again, you need to proceed very lightly because if you remove too much finish, especially from a low build wrap, you can damage the thread underneath.

Let us know how you make out.

2000 grit wet/dry automotive sandpaper will achieve this effect if used wet. It will produce a very smooth matte finish on epoxy wraps. This sort of sandpaper is easy to find at wal-mart, advance. auto parts etc.

As always, experiment with it first before doing it for real.

Hello and happy new year!

Yes - we make a clear epoxy finish that can be catalyzed with a "satin" catalyst to give a matte finish. Klass Kote is a two-component, epoxy paint system that has been sold to companies such as Daiwa for years for this very application. See our website [www.klasskote.com] or email us: info@klasskote.com for more information.
