I am in the process of attaching the reel seat. I reamed out the one piece arbor a bit too much. Can I put a little tape underneath when I glue the reel seat on the rod or should I try to ream all of the arbor out and start over? Re: Reel seat is loose

Tape would work fine but I would probably replace the arbor with a new one. Not to hard to do at all. Just ream out the old one a bit then turn down the new one to fit inside the old and then re-fit to the blank. Or just ream out the old one completely and start from scratch.
A rat-tail file or reamer will make short work of that arbor in minutes If you decide to use tape I suggest duct tape instead of masking tape. Try a "search" about "tape arbors" you will get a lot of opinions! Raymond Adams Eventually, all things merge, and a river runs through it.. Re: Reel seat is loose

If its not too loose you can shim it with thread or mesh dry wall tape. Freddwhy (Rapt-Ryte) Re: Reel seat is loose

I don't know how many rods you have built but YOU will always know that there was a flaw, quite miniscule in your case, in that particular rod. This flaw is quite easy to fix. Get in the habit of doing things right and don't get in the habit of using cover up tactics to deal with mistakes. If that work practice carries over into something of importance it will cause you to turn out rods that do not meet your expectations. Ream it out and do it again until you get it right - a correct arbor fit up is better than tape.
