Butt cap question

I have a blank that I already put the grips on. If I have, say, a 1/2 inch of blank showing, is there any reason not to put a butt cap that is say 1 inch long? Not sure if the extra half inch of empty space in the bottom would create a problem or not.
I was originally going to put a Fuji plastic cap on, but have a few of the silver pac-bay metal caps around, thinking about using. Thanks. Phil Re: Butt cap question

Don't leave it empty. Take a small piece of blank and fit up inside the existing rod blank. Extend it long enough for a full pin in the new chosen seat. Water break the surface and make a cork arbor to completely fill the space between the blank and the cap. Use Rod Bond and fit up. This butt cap can take a lot of abuse and needs to be a good strong joint. Do it right and you will be glad you did. I would not use masking tape which can separate and slide if contacted by moisture.
