Finally sorted out what the final look on my little Loomis will be.
In stripping it down, my attention was brought back to the glass ferrule I constructed, making it a 2 piece. The wall thickness of the ferrule is quite large. I am thinking of taking it down a touch. The blank is a GL2 SJ6400. Trimmed a little off the butt, then cut to make two 30" sections. Handle is joined to the butt with another ferrule. The glass on this lower joint is thinner, and quite sleek. It's the top one that looks funny. So, how best to try and turn/sand it down to get and maintain even wall thickness? Also, how far do you think I can go? It's currently a little under a millimetre thick at it's thickest (it has a "spine"), and about 0.7 mm at the thinnest part. Edited 1 time(s). If you can find a way to chuck it up in a lathe that would be the best way to make sure you take off the same amount evenly. I have no idea how thin you can make the wall before you run into failure, maybe measure the wall thickness on another 2 piece rod? Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
