Thinning Flexcoat

The flex Coat video recommends thinning the first coat only with acetone. Do any of you thin the subsequent coats of finish?

I only thin the first coat. Let it dry a few extra hours (usually over night). Clean it up and then a regualr coat. It works for me.

I do the same. Learned it on a Doc Ski video.

Greg,

I have watched the Flex Coat guys thin their finish so I know that it will work. however just to give you another option, I have used the high build for many years and have never thined it. I get really good results with one coat of the High Build as it is right out of the bottle. Ellis has seen some of my rods so he will confirm that I'm not just blowing smoke. Find what works for you and stick with it.

Later,
Gerald Mc

Why would you thin the flex coat? I have not been doing this. Will it not last as long?

From what I saw up at the St Croix factory, they were thinning the first coat and it penetrated the guide threads better and they got a smooth thin coat. Then the second coat was applied and they didn't have to worry about air bubbles hardly at all.

How much acetone would you add to the flexcoat?
