Is there an aerosol finish that can be used to completely redo a rod?I.m sure it must be fleible so that may let out aerosol finishes

Merrick Tackle sells Spray Epoxy Rod Finish. See page 24 of their online catalog.

Defthane polyurethane is pretty good. Don't get too wound up about the paint having to be flexible. By the inch, rods don't flex very much and most paints will be fine for use on rods. The greater issue is hardness and the ability of the finish to withstand abrasion. PermaGloss is probably tops in a one part finish for this application, but I've never attempted to spray it.

There is also a clear spray - I think - it is a poly urethane you can get from home depot.
