I need some advice/help regarding a trim wrap I am attempting. I am trying to do a single wrap of Pac-Bay metallic gold thread on my guide wraps. I am using one of the methods detailed in Clemens "Advanced Rod Building" book. It starts by taping a pull thread and the trim wrap thread in place before doing the actual guide wrap. My problem starts when I'm finished with the guide wrap and make my one turn on the trim wrap. I try to pull the trip wrap back under the guide wrap using the pre-taped pull thread. I end up pulling half the wrap under the guide wrap and end up with cutting off the guide wrap and starting over. My best wrap so far still has a decent gap between on the trim. Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks Kneale Re: Trim Wrap problems

If you are unable to pull the trim under the guide wrap, your guide wrap is too tight. Was that the question?
That is the method I use for almost all my trim. Jay Re: Trim Wrap problems

I agree, it sounds like you're wrapping too tight. I've used this method too and never had a problem. Re: Trim Wrap problems

You do not have to wait until you have finished the guide wrap to pull the trim band under. Make about 8 or 10 thread turns and then pull through. If you get the hang of it you will be able to wrap 1 1/2 and then back off until the full circle of the desired one trim band is lined up. This gets tough if you want the length of the wrap excessively short before it climbs the guide foot. It will be easier if you get the necessary hold down wraps completed and pulled under before it starts up the foot.

Bill's right , make an extra wrap on the single thread then carefuly pull the thread under the guide wrap 6 or 8 turns after you have started the guide wrap. You then can keep pulling the trip band under the guide wrap untill ther is only a single wrap left , then trim . Have fun , John Got Fish ? Re: Trim Wrap problems
