Odd Length Rod Sections

Yesterday I received two Amtak Matrix blanks, one a 9' 4 pc 8 wgt and the other an 8' 6" 4 pc 5 wgt. They came direct from Amtak and were rather poorly packed. The sections for the 5 wgt were not in any sort of plastic bag, just loose in the box, but fortunately not broken. The sections for the 8 wgt are all the same length, but the sections for the 5 wgt are not. The butt section is 1/2" longer than the 2 middle sections which are the same length and the tip section is in between the others in lenth. When I put it together and measured it it was 8' 5". I've built one other Matrix blank and all three sections were the same length. I've never seen anything like this before. Is this normal?

Maybe. Maybe not. Sometimes sections differ in length due to the different amount of ferrule overlap required on each section.

If you have any worries at all over this, I'd get in touch with Joe at AMTAK and ask him about it. He'll look after you on something like this.
