Blanks Similar to a Sage TXL

This is my first post to this sight as I only recently found it. I recently had the opportunity to use a Sage TXL (not TCR) 7'10" 3wt. Rod. I really liked the feel but about chocked on the price of around $500. Has anyone used one of these rods and have any suggestions concerning blanks that might perform similarly?

Thank you.

Mudhole (on the left) carries the Sage TXL blanks in 7' 10" 3wt for $250 - build it yourself and save a couple hundred bucks.

I've got my eye on a Gatti FRLW 7'6" 2wt. Similar to the TXL. Extremely light, quick and responsive. Built on the same design as the FRHP series. I have the 8'6" FRHP 4wt which is hands down the best rod I've ever cast or fished with. (and yes I've put it through some abuse for a year and it hasn't broke yet) Mudhole or Gatti-USA has the blanks about $200.

I've also heard great things about Dan Craft light weights (any weights for that matter). I have a couple on order from Rocky Mountain.

Tony has it.

The Gatti FRHP and FRLW are original light weight blank. Try one you won't be disappointed.

Check out the Dan Craft line....Amazing blanks, almost across the board.

I'm pretty sure there is an 8 ft 3 wt...or perhaps it is a 2 wt. Either way... you won't be disappointed.

Or just get the 8'4 4wt and get the best blank you've ever touched.

I haven't fished Dan's 903-2 or 903-5, but his 803-5 compares more directly with the Sage LL (the old, good ones) than the TXL. The 803-5 is a sweet little blank, especially with a DT2F at 30-40'.

The TXL's are a slower action blank with a stronger mid but softer butt section. Not my cup of tea. At least if you build one yourself, you'll be able to use appropriately-sized components. Someone at Sage really missed the boat on that.

Ed--I'm not sure if any of Dan's blanks compare directly with the TXL--I like them all better! :) The Sig 3 8022 is one of my new all-time favorites, but he does have a number of light line weight options. You can view his complete lineup at our online store if you're interested--also, click on "Compare our Blanks" and sort by length or line weight (which ever is your more important criteria) to see other potential options, though Dan's Sig IV blanks won't be included in that list (again, go to the store section of our site for those).

Come to think of it, the Rainshadow RX7 7'9" 3wt might not be too far off what you're looking for. We don't have it listed currently, but if you're interested drop us a line and I'll be happy to quote you on it.

Warmly,

Any opinions on any of the H&H kits? Would the IM6 make a good small creek rod in 3 wt?
