Bill,
You can make a similar dust collector (with a larger dust collecting surface) at a fraction of the cost , simply by securing a furnace filter to one side of a cheap box fan. The box fan set up was recommended by Tom Kirkman some time ago.

Even better would be have the motor away from the fan but attached with a belt so it will get less dust on it some thing like a body shop would have
I like Toms fan

For the purist who wants the ultimate dust collector: I have access to a NASA certified Class 100 HEPA Filtered to 0.5 micron oversize downflow booth. This particular unit has a zero degree dew point dehumidfier. The table is built for entry of eight foot six inch lengths of critical piping and components. One end of the unit has a 10x magnifing window for close inspection of valve internal sealing surfaces. This window is ideal for wrapping 00 silk threads. If someone wants this thing I will gladly build a 6 oz mechanical stirring unit out of titanium alloy and include it at no additional charge. If you were the owner of this unit you could work in the same room with Andy Dear and not have your work invaded by flying burnt cork dust!

This unit complete including shipping is available for only $ 8,799.95. A prepayment of 1/2 the purchse price will insure prompt delivery.

What size filter did you buy at the hardware store?

Dear Mr. Putter: Thank you for your confirming order for 12 of the down flow particle containment systems. I shipped the one I had in stock yesterday via common carrier. Please be advised that you will need a 10 ton crane on site to unload the large crates in a timely fashion. The standby charges for the 20 ton truck can be extremely expensive. I located a second unit at Vandenberg AFB, Clean Room Facilities, just outside of Lompoc, California. This one will be shipped next week. I have placed an order with Lockheed/Martin to procure necessarry parts and develope procedures for early completion on an expedited basis for the remaining ten.

Again, thank you for this order. NASA will certainly be glad to remove these items from the inventory list. Maybe I need to start more marbelizing - I really did not know that you had enough business to support such equipment.
