How many use a wrap to strengthen where the butt fits the rest of the rod. I've done both depending on what I'm doing. I'm asking because w/all the split grip w/o fore grip rods I'm building. The wrap looks out of place so I haven't been doing them. So far for my personal rods there have been no failures but I'd like it if y'all would chime in and let me know if this is okay. I also beat my rods to death so no failures to me is a good measure of a failure happening or not. Re: Telescopic rods

You've been lucky ,and the telescoping butt sections are usually pretty heavy walled. I wouldn't trust it, seems a shame to blow up a rod, when the fix is so easy. The difference in weight and performance wouldn't be noticeable. I usually also put a wrap on the other part of the blank where it rests in the shortened position as a bearing surface to protect the blank in the rod box on sloppy days, or in the back of the rig. Use a thread color as close to the color of the blank as possible and don't use Color preserver. With 'A' thread it will not be very noticeable. I do this on the joints of about half the rods I build. Ralph If at first you don't succeed, go fishing, then try, try again. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
