I have a dryer I made a couple of years ago with a 40rpm timing motor. I added a pully and a belt to bring the speed down to around 10 rpm. But I just found a website with some great timing motors for using with a rod dryer.

Check out surpluscenter dot com. I just bought a 6 rpm timing motor that Im going to use to replace my 40 rpm.

Carefull of those slow speeds. If you put to much finish on it may sag???
I have a 40 RPM motor that I use at 40 plus to coat butt wraps cause they are long, but also geared for about 15 RPM for the guide wraps.

I have an old barbeque rotisserie motor that I have used for about 27 yrs. It turns at about 8-10 rpm and I have never had a sag in hundreds of rods. It finally started to wear out and I replaced it with a Power Wrap combination and have had no problems with that so far.

I originally had it set up with the 40rpm, no pulley. It was way too fast for me to ge the finish on the rod. I havent made any butt wraps yet. But considering your post I may try to incorporate both the 40rpm and the 6rpm into a dryer. Thanks.

I have used motors as slow as 6 rpm without any problems. I have a friend in the air conditioning business that used to give me what he called thermostat motors to make my rod dryers and they worked fine. I now use a FlexCoat motor that runs at 18 rpm.

I switched from 40 rpm to 3 rpm and get much better finishes. I hand turn for a hour or so then turn it on

Two different pullies on each the motor and the chuck and I use the large and small o-rings from think it was pac bay from there wrapper

I dont know, lots of different views on this one. I think Im going to try with the 6 rpm alone first. See how I like it. Then decide whether to go with the 40rpm with pulleys bringing it down to 10-12rpm, or the 6rpm.
