Howdy,
Is there any reason I shouldn't use an old rod for my first attempt at rod building? I have stripped an old Shimano Triton 25-50lb rod down to the fiberglass and plan to use ot to build a 30lb class albacore rod. Other than a pronounced spine in the top 18-24" (from leaning against a wall for years?) the blank appers to be in good condition. Thanks, Jonathan Re: Rod Recycling - good?

It would be good practice and an excellent starter project. I'd go right ahead if I were you.

Two typos and one encouraging reply - Thanks Tom. Now how about "Edt post" and "Delete Post" optoins? :)

Actually, that sounds like a "bend" in the rod, not a "spine". The spine exists even in a straight blank, you can read up on that here. Re: Rod Recycling - good?

Nothing wrong with it at all. I'm always on the search for old rods at yard sales, thrift stores and pawn shops to rebuild or restore. Re: Rod Recycling - good?

If it has a substantial bend in it, build right on that. The end product will look much better. If you find the spine & it is very pronounced yet not even close to your bend, you may consider a spiral wrap...still building on that bend.
