Inconsistent thread color

I was getting ready to start wrapping another rod, noticed I was low on the thread I wanted to use for my underwraps. Ran down to the local tackle shop, asked for the color I wanted. He brings it out, and I can see that the color is alot lighter than what I had at home. I bought it, got home, colors not even close. Same brand, Gudebrod HT Metallic 9037, Ice Blue. So I ordered another spool from somewhere else, and it is off from the other two colors. Three spools of Gudebrod HT Metallic 9037, three different colors. Anyone else ever run into this?

Below is a link to a picture of the three spools.

Is it possible the sunlight has affected these spools - maybe they were sitting in a tackle shop for differnet periods of time? All the more reason to buy 500 or 1000 yard spools.

I'm going with faded spools also. How long the thread was stored and how the thread was stored can make a big difference. I'd be willing to bet that if you start stripping off some thread on the middle spool, it will start to darken up a bit the deeper you get. Not enough to match the other thread possibly, and would be a waste of good thread.

Happens all the time. Different dye batches. This is common in the thread and fabric industry. Always buy enough at one time to complete a rod with. The spools will always be slightly different if they come from different dye batches.
