Hello.
Just wondered if anyone has any feedback about the comparison between these two blanks (action, weight, etc.). I see that the RX8 is 51 Mil. Mod. and the RX7 is 43 Mil. mod., which should make the RX8 faster, just wanted to know what you guys/gals thought. Appreciate the help! -Tony Re: Rainshadow RX7 vs. RX8 fly rods

The modulus won't make the blank faster, the taper does. I haven't used any RX8s but have used a bunch of RX7s. The models I have used in that series range from slow (AA in upper 40s for models IF502-2 and IF504-2) to pretty fast (AA of 70 for model IF865-4). Most have been in the 59-62 range. I have been impressed with most of them as very well made, straight, and good ferrule fit. I noticed that the prices on both series just went up dramatically though and I don't know if the new 2005 models are totally different or if only the price has changed. Seem like good blanks to me. I agree with steve, i have use the RX7's and have been very satisified with the blanks. WIth increasing the modulus you do increase the sensivity, and decrease the overall weight by a small portion, however there are some drawbacks. Using a higher modulus graphite does make the blank more brittle, and with an impact, will cause the blank to break. IF you are fly fishing and hit a high modulus blank with a bead head on a cast (watched it happen), you stand the risk of breaking the blank. If you go with a higher modulus graphite, make sure that it has a lifetime warrenty. both are good blanks (RX7's and 8's) but the choice is yours. Just think of the type of fishing the rod will be used for and go from there. MI Builder Re: Rainshadow RX7 vs. RX8 fly rods

I am told by a friend that has considerable experience with these two series, ( I personally have built on several RX7 but no corresponding RX8) that to expect very little difference in weight between the two similar rods but that the RX8 are a touch faster but again not by a lot, (I realize that "not by a lot" is subjective) Re: Rainshadow RX7 vs. RX8 fly rods

i have built a 9 foot 4 wt. on both blanks the rx8 much lighter and faster in recovery the tapers are similar i love the the rx8 the rx7 seemed very heavy to me for a 4wt. but casted nice these are the old models not this years + models Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
