I would like to try a tartan plaid but am having some trouble getting started. Does anyone have wraping directions for a simple tartan that I can disect to better understand the concepts involved in getting the correct bleed pattern.

Ron, My best advice would be to look up tartans on the internet. You should get a huge selection of the different tartans available. Select one you like but with a fairly simple pattern. I use a underwrap of NCP white thread as the base. You can also paint the blank white. I don't like using the paint because to me it is just one more thing that can affect your final wrap. Lay out your centres for a double wrap and begin wrapping your diamonds. Try not to use too many colours or combinations in the diamond as it can become to confusing in the finish. Once you finish your pattern fill in the rest of the open space with your Reg A white. This is what creats the light and dark effect of the tartan. Pack it tightly then apply your finish to the length of the wrap. You will see it bleed through. I reckon this is the best part. Leave it to dry for a day then do your trims (the bits running over the top of your pattern (Use NCP here) . Again I don't like going overboard here because it gets too cluttered. Do your tie downs and then apply the last coat of finish. That it. Good luck
