How about some more information ! Which snapper, ocean, depth? Private boat or head boat? Live bait, dead, jigs? Do you have to cast to a reef or cliff, or just bombs-away, straight down. Conventional or Spin? I mean, for a drop-stick, almost any stout rod would do. For casting, you might want a fast taper with plenty of backbone to steer your fillets into the ice chest. Line rating you have in mind? Lure / sinker weight? GIGO. Re: Snapper rod

Private boat, Red Snapper, would like to be able to cast, may jig or use bait live/dead.line weight 15-40 lbs. I was looking at St. Croix TC 80XHXF or TC76HF . Any other ideas are welcome. Thanks Cliff Re: Snapper rod

Lee - I wish I could say I have handled these blanks, but I haven't. Either sounds like the right tool for the job. If you're not worried about the extra length, I'd give the node to the 8'er, because of the extra fast tip for casting and higher line rating, which should translate into more BACKBONE for setting the hook on your jig or jerking a fish off his magnet structure. And it probably will handle a 3+oz sinker better for bottom bouncing a bait. (Judicious trimming can shorten it a bit if needed.) ST.CROIX SC-II Graphite Inshore/SaltWater (Matte Green Finish) ST.CROIX "TC-76HF" = TC 7-6-H-F CAST/SPIN 7'6" 1-pc 15-30lb. 1/2-2oz. Hvy FAST 0.650" #6.5-tip 4.0 oz. $75 ST.CROIX "TC-80XHXF" = TC 8-0-XH-XF CAST/SPIN 8'0 1-pc 15-40lb. 3/4-3oz. XHvy X-FAST 0.640" #7.0-tip 3.7 oz. $86 (Hey, if you order both, then you'll have one for the guest !) At a blank weight of 4oz, it sounds like St.Croix is getting a lot of power out of a nice lite blank. With a quality reel, this sounds like a great outfit. I hope the weather gives you a chance to build it and fish it soon. Best Wishes, Lee. - Cliff Hall, Gainesville, Florida -. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
