I just built a 6’6" Casting rod for a friend and did the Roberts wrap on the rod. It took 4 guides to make the wrap to the bottom. He is using braided line with the Rod and says that the line is fowling in the guides and is not casting very well.
The first 4 guide I used were Fuji GSLVG 12, 10, 8 and another 8. Are these guide the right guides to use for the wrap? Or should I have used gu

What factors determine the 1st 180 degree guide placement and size of guides on a spiral wrap rod ? This is on a 6.5 ft rod blank. Tried the conventional guide placement but do not like all that twisting of the rod tip when under load. The spiral wrapped baitcasting rod looks like the best way to go, at least from my personal observations.
MANY THANKS!!!

484. Guide placement
This may help in the placement of guides on any rod. Guides may be placed in almost any fashion that will allow the line to move from the reel to the tip. The real question is how can we place the guides to allow this to happen with the most efficiency possible. First, if we establish a set of criteria that we want to meet we will know when we have accomplished it. I use the following criteri

I'm building a 9' surf rod for a customer who wishes to use it for jack crevalle on the Mexican Gulf coast. I'm using a casting set up for a Shimano Speedmaster on a moderate action E-Glass blank . The customer insists that he needs the spine side up which I am afraid will cause this softer tipped rod to twist under the strain of an oversized jack. I brought up the idea of a spiral wrap and w

WIth all that is going on this past week, I've had a lot of time to work on rods. Of course, as I sit in my room working on a few rods, I have a brainstorm (well, not quite a storm)about wrapping with single foot guides.
I am building a couple of rods (Lami CGBT781L & ML) to be used with 20-25 pound test. I am going to use single foot fly guides on the tip section of a spiral wrapped rod

I have a question that I hope some of you could address for me. On a rod that has the guides, on a casting rod, located traditionally on the top of the blank, when loaded the line causes a force downward toward the blank. Now along comes a Spiral wrapped rod with the guides hanging on the bottom of the rod with the force from the line directed away from the blank. My question is, for rods being b

488. Classic Rod Winder
Hi Folks,
I saw that there had been a question about the thread tensioner on the cover of the most recent RM issue. Thanks to both Bill and Tom for piping up about it. To give everyone some more info, here is the text that comes with the tool. I admit, it's wordy, but so are most of the instructional brochures that accompany Golden Witch tools.
Best regards,
Russ

Has anyone seen anything in English on the new Fuji Low Rider Guides? They're apparantly available in the UK and Conoflex UK is apparantly using them on their fishing and tournament rods both multiplier and fixed spool. It seems also that Daiwa is fully committed to these guides on at least some of their line even surf rods,I've"heard" that Shamino is going to them as well. I've only se
