I read somewhere on this site about rods breaking from bouncing during transportation. I believe it spoke about the guys who transport them vertically in those pvc tubes on the truck bumper. In more recent times,I have seen mostly roof mounted systems.,and even magnetic mounts etc..
So my question is what is the best way to protect rods from a fracture during the ride,,,who makes a good syste

32. rod storage
I have a bunch of fishing rods. I just finished attaching a cieling rack hanger in my garage to store them horizontally. I have previously stored all my rods upright or in a tube. Will prolonged two-point horizontal storage harm graphite blanks?

What do you use to clean a blank before applying epoxy finish and after drying before delivery? I am new to the forum. Sorry if this has been
brought up before.

34. KLH questions?
Hi,
I would like to know two things about the KLH guide concept.
1) I am building a PE2 jigging rod with the reduction guides being 20H, 8H to 6L to 6 runners.
On the KR gps it says I need to use a 10H instead of an 8H. Could I get away with using a 8H rather than a 10H?
Will there be any problems?
2) I am building another rod which is a rainshadow knife jigging blank 15-30 Lbs

I've been building fly rods now for a couple of years and have wanted to include an extra tip with every rod and it's very difficult to impossible to get one. Roger offers extra tips on some of his blanks. On @#$%& nearly every blank maker offers no extra tips. In my head I can imagine racks of blanks for the different lengths of rods and wgts and bagging each rod with an extra tip. At least

Looking to build my first surf rod and I am in need of some guidance as to which blank to purchase. I have it narrowed down to a St. Croix 4SRS106MHMF2 1-6 oz 10'6 and and a Lamiglas GSB120-1L 2-4 oz 10'. I am also open to other suggestions, not opposed to spending a little money to get a good blank. I am leaning more towards the St. Croix, but It is only available in a two piece. Have any

I have a large downstairs space that I am going to convert to a rod building / fly tying / man cave. What are some of the must haves to take into consideration when laying out the room (ie is 15' worktop big enough, lots of cabinets for storage)? What are some of the nice to haves (ie outlets at workspace height, track lighting with daylight bulbs)?
Currently more of a hobbyist but will be l

I'm sure this has been covered, but what are a lot of you guys using for your rod and blank racks? I'm designing one for my shop and I'd love to see and hear about some of your options.

Being a relatively new rod builder, I would appreciate insight into the significance to strength and durability of treating thread with color preservative. It seems the consensus is that color preservative causes the connection between the blank and wrapping to be not as strong as untreated thread. My question is, how significant is the deficiency and should treating or using treated thread be av

Great job on the gathering today. Good mix of new and experienced builders, great presentations and exchange of information. Thanks also to all of the sponsors who help make it possible. Oh yea, lunch wasn't bad either.

52. Nano guides
I saw a completed rod in the tackle shop the other day that appeared, at first glance, to have no guides. My first thought was that it was another through-the-blank design which generally has been a failure due to too much line friction in actual use, not to mention the difficulty threading line through.
It was a white blank with white wraps, trigger-grip split handle and split grips. Upon c

53. Best of Show??
Curious to know what others thought was the most innovative new product introduced at the Expo this past weekend. My vote goes to the new Rodgeeks blanks. Maybe I'm a sucker for the color stuff but I thought these really stood out from the crowd!

We may be in the Orlando area soon and thought about going over to Mudhole. Isit worth the drive or am I just as good with the catalog. Not that I need a ton of stuff so it may be more of a "kick the tires" visit. Or is there more to see than the catalog?

55. Expo Addition
I recognize that there have been many informal rod building clubs and groups forming around the Country these past few years and have decided to offer them something additional at the Expo this coming year - a free space. A place to gather and display rods from your club members, as well as perhaps promoting yourselves to other rod builders from your area. There are some conditions to obtain the

I have never encountered this problem. I am repairing 10 rods for a tournament angler and one of the rods from the split grip area up to the first casting guide the finish has bubbled up on one side. The rod is about 5 years old and is a telescopic flippin stick. Any ideas what could cause this?

So a couple of weeks ago, I asked about a finish problem I was having where my entire finish was fisheying all over the blank...hundreds of them. I have never in the past 10 years had a problem with finish. I worked on tweaking air circulation, possible contaminants, and rod prep. I even opened a new finish to eliminate that possibility. All seemed fine. Next rod, 3rd coat blows up again. Arg.

I am considering building a few spinning rods to have something to show and to sell (got the license now). I agree with the NGC and 27x in general, but these would be built without knowing what reel will be used. I suppose you would assume a 1000 reel on an ultralight, 1500 on a trout rod, 2500 on a dropshot, 4000 for steelhead and set up the guides that way. What do you think?

Visited the local tackle shop and got to inspect one of the "popular" rods a company here on the South Texas coast produces. These are my findings: Guides were not in alignment, several gaps in the guide threads, not enough epoxy on the guides... most guides you could feel the threads, excess glue on the cork where the seat meets the cork and on the exposed trigger area. I inspected
