241. Finish Restoration
I have a 7-6 honey colored Lamiglas rod that was wrapped about 30 yrs ago. I just stripped the guides and you can see the age on this ole girl. I would like to restore the finish before I rebuild her. Any suggestions on how and what to use for the finish. I have some liquid Rod Restorer but not sure if this will do the trick. As always, Thanks for the help.

OK...I get the best wrap job when I coat them with my trusty min-wax spar urethane. But I like the Permagloss because it seems so hard.
Can I put the Permagloss on top of the spar urethane as a final coat or two intended to provide a thin but hard surface.
Are the two compatable?

I have a Permagloss question for you..relating to my own Permagloss experience (that I'm not quite pleased with).
When you do wraps with Permagloss how do you get them perfectly smooth (after the final coat).... or do they remain a little bit "wavy?"
Mine are wavy...And I've tried all the tricks I thought I had learned from my Min-Wax spar urethane rods. Even on those rods I found

I havn't used permagloss allot, but the few times I have, I've had problems with something (not sure what) in the application process. I always ensure the area I'm applying is clean and wiped down well with ISO before I apply the perma gloss. I seem to end up with specs or bubbles or something in the coating when I apply it to a blank (A fairly good amount of it). I suspect they're bubbles, but I

Thanks for the reply....
Would you recommend Permagloss over other stuff (I use a Min-wax product)?
Can you sand it, etc...to repair boo boos and such?
What do you generally do wraps with on your rods?

I have some Permagloss that is getting thick and there is a good portion still in the bottle. Can I thin this Permagloss with Brush Solvent and what would be a safe ratio if so.

I have seen multiple posts now about people using rod bond or epox as winding checks. How does it look?? And is there any where that there are pistures or instructions about how to make an epoxy check?? I personally am interested in this kind of idea. I hate the rubber checks! Metal ones are okay though

In the past I've always used the LS 2000 or Supreme finish for my labels and the guide wraps. Would it be better to use Permagloss? I haven't had any trouble from using the LS finishes over labels so far.
Thanks,
Steve

249. Epoxy-v-urethanes?
For the 'chemical savy' among us:
I understand that the 'one part' or 'no mix' wrap finishes like PermaGloss require multiple coats to achieve the same 'coat' or result as the two part epoxies like LS Supreme or Flex Coat.
That being a 'given', is one of these finishes 'superior' to the other AFTER proper application?
If there is 'difference' in how it 'fishes', what are the pros and cons of

250. Rod Maker cover
Hey Tom:
Got my issues yesterday. Came just fine with the false cover. Loved smaller type more information.
Question. The finish on the guides on the cover was flawless. How many coats of finsh were on that guide and what did you do between coats.

251. Permagloss?
I too have had problems with cp, guides working loose( I filled the tunnel). So is it possible to use permagloss as your first coat, let it cure and then come back with a second coat of a light finish such as cystal coat or flexcoat lite? By the way I'll be using ncp thread. Pat

Hello again ,
I managed to paint my blank last night with the CREATEX auto airbrush paint. The color came out nice , I now need to put a topcoat on it. I decided against pricey 2 part spray urathanes as im only going to do a matte blank on occasion.
Ive decided on no mix products. Ive been using varathane 900 as a color preserver and on my wraps.
Would Varathane 900 (A floor finish) be a goo

First, thanks to all who so generously give of their time and knowledge here. I am new to this and have learned more off of this board than any other source. It is a pleasure to associate with such a fine group.
OK... We've settled on a CP, applied it per our orders, and are ready to apply multiple thibn coats of our chosed finish. Up to now, it had been Permagloss. I am struggling with the conc

I recently discovered that I made a bonehead move. I bought a blank from G. Loomis and ordered an extra tip section with it. i built the rod and matched the work on the extra tip section with the first tip section. I have been fishing this rod all summer, and on a whim decided to use the extra tip. To my astonishment, the extra tip section has a larger ferrule than the other tip, and it easil

In relation to my post down below does Purmagloss handle like a normal polyurathane,
1) typically how many coats are needed on average flyrod wraps with size A thread
2) what prep is needed between coats, scotch brite ,sanding ?
3)whats the drying time between coats in order to do next coat?
With the Varithane 900 floor finish that I use I must sand with 800 or 1000 grit paper between c

Is Permagloss used to coat the entire rod for refinishing? Are there other products?
