Simon, You will need to wrap the ferrulles anyway. If you can work it out to put a guide there, it will save you the weight of additional thread and finish. I try to put guides on the ferrulles, but only if my stress distribution tests allow for it. Sometimes a ferrulle wrap looks out of place so i wrap with thread that matches the blank. Carrington

Good morning, I wanted to give Deb at Decal Connection kudos for the service i received this week. A co-worker wanted a special decal for his 12 yr old step brother, who just lost his sister at age twenty. I scanned a copy of what they wanted, sent it to Decal Connection (Tuesday), asked that the art be done and sent out overnight the same day. They came through big time, got the decal to m

the aluminum seats you are referring to can be found at Ricks Rods in Denver CO. The seats are from Phillipson and can be had in silver, brown, and black. I used one for a spin/fly combo and it works great. Got the idea from Steve Kartalia (sp) who posted a photo on either this site or the old photo site. Found the picture----- fishingphotos.net, page 11 of the handle assemblies sectio

I know barely anything about computers(so i won't comment), but the one thing that i caught on to quite quickly on this forum two years ago is that this site is owned by Tom K. and using his site is a privilege, not a right. Frustrating? Absolutely! Worthy of this thread?, i don't think so. Carrington Tate Durango, CO

decal connection, they are a sponsor of this site. There are copyright issues that you may run into if you want to companies names replicated, if i'm reading your post correctly. They have a variety of different decal paper, probably best to call them directly so they can match your needs. I spray krylon fixatif (sp?) on the decal after applying, then use a two part Epoxy like threadmaster.

i have that factory rod, but in a 6' length line rating 6-12 lb. Bought it as a casting rod for about $100 in '94. Hardly used, just stripped it down and am building a split handle spinning rod. Carrington

Afternoon, Building a flyrod for a friend who is a graduate of the Univ. of MT. He wants maroon guide wraps with silver trim. Does anyone know a good match for the maroon color? Thanks Terry and Ron, appreciate the response. Terry, this guy is pretty much stuck on the 7 ft length, even though the longer length makes perfect sense. Actually i am focusing on a couple of Rainshadows that may fit the bill. Have a great weekend Carrington

i am building a freshwater trolling blank as a suprise for a co-worker and need some help with blank selection. His fishing buddy tells me that their typical set up is a 7 ft, 1 pc, moderate action rod using up to 20 lb test line. They use a downrigger and rod holders, and are targeting landlocked salmon around 5 lbs. he told me that the lure weight is around 5-6 0z. I want to use a bumper wr

Building a freshwater trolling rod as a retirement present for a co-worker and he uses a downrigger with the rod holder attached. I just got finished reading the article in Rodmaker (vol 8, issue 1) on the trolling rods of the Great Lakes by Tom Kohl, and while reading the section on handle material, it is obvious that the grip has some pretty good pressure placed against it . I've used plenty

Tom, i did as Joe Brenner listed, same as Andy Dear does in his video, and the two do not meet perfectly in the middle. The headstock is higher than the tailstock. I have not tried the chuck method you mention, but can try when i get home. Thanks for the responses Carrington Tate

i bought a turncrafter pro from PSI and have a problem with the centers lining up correctly. The headstock is higher than the tailstock. I'm not in front of it, but i'd say the difference is 1/16th of an inch. I called PSI, they said to send it in for warranty replacement which i will do, but if there is a reasonable fix, i'd like to avoid the shipping hassles (not to mention, not having the l
