About two weeks ago, I refinishied and rewrapped two old split bamboo surf rods for a guy. I put Carsons water based CP over the wraps and 24 hrs later used Threadmaster one finish, about three coats applied 12 - 24 hrs apart. After about two weeks curing time I called the customer and told him his rods were ready. He was supposed to pick them up on Friday so I put them out on my side screen porc

Jeremy,
You are correct; the rubber cement only acts as a lubricant, and slick it is! You won't believe how well the grip slides down the rod blank with only minimal effort. Every rod builder has experienced the frustration of cutting off a stuck grip that you couldn't push all the way down a blank at least once in your rod building life. This method makes that a thing of the past. Cutting the

I use the media by Papilio for ink jet printers and cover my decals with Papilio clear-coating type LLA5000 UV protective coating spray, at least two coats. Let it dry for at least 4 hrs or over night if you are patient. Zero problems with fading or smearing after covering with U40 high build epoxy on the blank.

Aaron,
If you want an EVA rear grip in black to fit that blank order a RG14A12B by American Tackle. It has an .750 ID and should slide into place with little or no reaming. Check out this method of gluing EVA grips. A real time saver for this tedious task.

Bill,
I just posted the results photo of a logo under permagloss on a EVA grip so you could see the resulting line.

Hi Bill - Sorry for the delay. I was never completly happy with the result that i got, however it was acceptable. I taped off the EVA and used some Perma gloss by U40 along the tape line which didn't seem to soak under quite as bad as the high build that i was using. Make sure you remove the tape BEFORE the perma glass is completly dry.

Billy,
I still coat the blank where the grip is going to land with epoxy. I just find that the grip glides with the rubber cement better than epoxy and the clean up is a snap.
