Three of us on the river last week, friend hands two plug rods I built for him up to the front seat and says "put these out". The other partner asks which one goes on his side of the boat? The response? The one with that turns to the left is for the left side and the one that turns to the right goes on the right side. You'd be surprised how many people want downrigger rods with the tur

Rainshadow RCLB's or their Tough Stick would fill the bill.

I'm not stepping on Karry here but the tip on the 747 is an 8. You'd be hard pressed to find a size 6 or 7 ring in that diameter tube.

Well, $300 doesn't sound too bad to me, I was quoted $256.00 to ship a four rod tube to La Paz, B.C.. I'll risk the plane.

Seems a shame to throw out the baby with the bath water. Maderia offers so many great colors that putting on a couple of coats of CP is the least of my worries. That thread makes the greatest fade wraps.

Oops...it's not sliver material, that might hurt, it is, however a real pretty silver color.

Some of the early Texalium was just a color coat over the tubing and peeled off easily. The woven graphite in black or sometimes in green does ok in holders. I use a lot of them in the drift boat with the Fish On type of holder holders without any problem. Unless your launcher is coated or dipped, you'd be better served with the Slick Butt. You might also check with Batson Enterprises about the

For those of us that tend to check into more than one forum, you may want to offer up a vote for the idea at Batson Enterprises. They have a poll going at their website to see if there is interest in a forum of their own. I know there are alot of questions raised about Rainshadow blanks and their specs. This might be a good opportunity to create another rodbuilding information source. Who knows,

Not sure if I read it right, but if you "have threads showing", I assume you mean that the epoxy did not fully cover them. If thats the case, I'd be real cautious with the sanding business. Sand paper and bare threads do not get along very well. Good luck with the fix, I'm with the take em' off and rewrap crowd, but thats only because I just happen to have a bit of experience in correct

Good title. I was about to answer "oh, about 200 spools.....maybe more". But instead I'll just say "bet you'll have a lot more by the time the next rod starts"!!!!!

With NCP you shouldn't have much trouble with the colors bleeding through. I'd watch the yellow on a gloss black blank. Unless you pack really well, you could end up with the blank peeking through. Orange, yellow, red...sounds like an eyepopper! Do a few test wraps first, see if you like one over the other.

Anything is possible. The blank I'd choose retails for over $200.00 and it's 13'. Billy is a bit facetious, but he's pretty accurate here, for that price you should be looking for something store bought.

My oh my, now I'm embarassed. My CPW looks USED. It will take a while to get it clean enough to wax now, here I thought all I had to do was sweep the floor and empty the trash. Glad my wife doesn't look at phorum.

They won't be slippery, and the foregrips from Batson Enterprises are complete with a tapered foam arbor. I just put up a pic of a split grip with two of the 2" grips.

I don't think PG is your problem. Threadless wraps using nothing but PG to hold the guides on the blank seem to work well. I think there was an article in Rodmaker detailing that very thing. If the guides are coming loose, it's a thread tension problem.

503. Re: CP question
Talk about strange things happening. I fished yesterday with a very old fiberglass salmon rod that I built about 12 years ago. My fishing buddy asked me why the last guide wrap was a lighter color than the others. Much to my surprise, that last guide had no finish on it!!! All those years and I never noticed the difference, but the guide was still secure, the thread was a bit frayed. I may just

Yep, a mountain out of a mole hill. Thread holds the guide to the blank, finish protects the thread. CP won't make a noticible difference.

Try pushing the finish into the tunnel at the side of the guide foot next time. If you are using a spatula of some kind, it's easy to do. By squeezing the finish against the thread at the edges of the guide you'll force the finish in and the air out. If you look at the guide foot through the dried finish (assuming you used no CP) and can see light spots, chances are it's trapped air. Bubbles at

I look forward to getting each issue of Rodmaker with great anticipation. Now I have something else to run to the mailbox for. The new Batson Enterprises catalog is something else. More like a glossy, high quality magazine. Products beautifully photographed, great explanations and descriptions and the new design software pics are a neat trick. I have to admit that the postage stamping was a lot h
