If you still have issues after your first coat of epoxy is cured, trim the little tail off and hit your guides with a second coat of epoxy. I prefer 2 lite coats to 1 heavy coat. Finishes better in my opinion. shouldn't be able to see it then.

Batsons ISB 822.5 is a 6'10" medium xtra fast 1 pc. It is listed as a drop shot blank. I have built one with a split grip and an Alps triangle seat it makes a great rod. It is a couple of inches shorter than your request. Very crisp blank. Get ahold of the guys at Midwest Rod and Reel on the left. they will take care of you as well as the rest of the vendors that carry Batson line ups

for wraps get Billy Vivona's book. A few blanks, a whole mess of thread. And start wrapping.
for weaves I believe DocSki has some instructional videos out.

I have never had a problem with the skins from Mudhole. You shouldn't have to do anything. Just apply it according to the instructions mudhole has on there website and you should be fine.

Alot of it depends on your wrapping abilities and the taper that is on the rod. If there is a really strong taper it might be hard to do a longer wrap. I just did a fish wrap on a ISB 822.5 that was 11 1/2" long. My first fish wrap was only 5" long.

I've got one that is manufactured.
But the measurements are as followed. wood is 5/8" thick, from the center of the groove to the back stop is 2". The grove it self is 1/2" wide at the very top and 3/8" deep. The whole jig is 12" long, I would make it at least 14 or 16" inches long. 12" is ok but I always run my straight edge out past the jig on almost

I glued up the handle and real seat on a plumb colored 8' 4 wgt, blank tonight. This is my first blank this color. I was thinking maybe brown and bronze. But now I think that might clash a little. Any recommendations to un-cloud my brain.
Thanks,
Mike

I do every thing with a hand drill. Run your drill in reverse when using a wood bit. Takes a little longer, but it doesn't bite and tear like it does in forward. Makes a cleaner edge too. You think you need to start with a smaller pilot hole then work your way up in size. Do your final fit with reamer or round file. The other thing is to make sure as you go you are keeping the hole clean.

There is a need for lots of grip material, wood, cork, EVA, graphite...the list goes on.
Alot comes down to personal preferance of the individual buying the custom rod. That is why it is called Custom.
Me I split the field, my casting rods have EVA, my spinning rods have cork, my fly rods have wood handles. Why? Cause that is the way I wanted it.
As said earlier, Billy V. makes som

A couple more things that I do.
If it is a matte finish on the blank I recommend a coat of epoxy prior to placing your decal. I have found that on the matte blanks you will experience a slight haziness around the edge of the decal. If a initial coat of epoxy is not used. the initial coat is not needed on a blank with a gloss finish.
For vinyl and peel and stick decals use a hard roller (

Josh,
Menards does carry the fiberglass dry wall tape. I believe the brand they carry is white. Probably hanging on the end of an aisle close to where the dry wall mud is at.
