RE: Rodmaker magazine v.19-issue 1 Page 14: article titled Alternative EVA
The only EVA balls I have been able to locate are on Amazon.com. I found some foam golf practice balls and the multi striped ball shown in the article. Nothing locally at any pet or hobby stores. I have spent literally hours on the internet searching for balls or other shapes of EVA to use in dressing up EVA hand

I have a contact who needs a bamboo fly rod repaired. I am not qualified to work on bamboo rods. I offered to find a repairman for him. I am asking rod builders to recommend someone he can contact.

I have a man who contacted me about building a 8'6" crank bait rod with soft tip. I would appreciate feedback on a blank(s) to recommend to him. The best idea I have found (for my limited experience using long heavy bass rods) is an 8'6' musky rod blank from St Croix -

35. topic help
Recently I saw a comment on the forum about directions for some simple rod wrap designs - specifically fish and flag designs. I seem to remember it referenced a company that primarily deals in rod/wrapping finishes
I neglected to write down the recommend source for the instructions
can someone give me a source of simple wrapping patterns without costing an arm & leg

thanks for the information and suggestions.
The rod is to be a graduation present from a well known southern university. As best as I can, I am grilling "DAD" to get some of the information I need.

I was installing a PacBay reel seat that comes with a metal butt cap. I had not taken a good look at a fly reel seat in a long time and installed the seat with the threads next to the grip. I was trying to remove the reel seat to turn it around and broke the rod just In front of the reel seat. I did not want to give my client a shortened rod with potential loss of action so I purchased new bla

I botched the installation of the reel seat on a 9 ft. 6wt. fly rod and now have a non-standard length rod approximately 8ft-7in long. I purchased a new blank to complete my project and will now build a 6wt 8'7" fly rod with a foam core handle. I will use the rod primarily for bass, bluegillll & crappie. I am toying with the idea of moving the back of the reel seat 2-3 inches up from

I have been asked to make a fly rod for a 55 year old beginner
this rod will be a no-frills 9' - 2 piece rod
rod will be used almost exclusively on a large private pond with plenty of room for a back cast
pond is stocked with black bass, crappie and blue gill
the client wants to learn how to handle a fly rod fishing this pond, but wants to hold this first rod cost to a minimum until he learn

I am thankful that each of us can express our own ridiculous opinion on this forum with receiving an undue amount of abuse.
Most of the casting rods I make are split grip because I can add "bling" between the handle sections. This is where I like to put the owner's name.
Something I have used to make the butt heavier for better balance is to add rings of hardwood to the butt sect

I have just started making carbon graphite handles; none in use yet.
So far I have only used the carbon graphite sleeve. I bought everything I have used so far from Riley rods. I followed Mike's u-tube video and written instructions for putting the handles together.
I have not been able to get Riley rods to answer these questions; maybe I asked for too much at one time.

I have been making rods for 2 years as a "commercial enterprise", but have been making rods for self, family & friends for nearly 50 years.
In the last 2 years I have made more than 2 dozen rods with pieces from 1-1/2 inch long to 14 inches long. I have purchased handles and have made handles from cork rings. More than 50% of the time the reamed hole will be off-center. I have

1): There are many references on this site about tying off small single foot guides with a Forhan clinch. Where can I get info, preferably with some kind of graphics, for this process?

Is the paste "hardner" part A or Part B?
Same thing for epoxy guide finish materials?
For the epoxy liquid, do you heat only one part or both?

I have finished painting 15 rods for a guide client. I used Duplicoat for the yellow rods and and Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch (seems to be similiar to Krylon Fusion) for the "Dukes of Hazard" orange and lime green rods. All of the blanks were painted several weeks ago. None of the paint cured as hard as I would like for a rod finish. Is U-40 PermaGloss a good over-coat for a tougher

I have been asked to build a 11-ft spinning rod for 1-4 lb. line. I have never encountered a spinning rod blank like this. I make the assumption I will need to use a fly rood blank. I have found 11-ft, 4 piece, 7 and 8 wt. fly rood blanks , but would prefer to use a 2-piece blank if possible.
I am continuing my search for 2-piece 11 ft fly rod blanks

Thanks to all of you guys.
FYI - I cannot drill the butt cap centered, & my drilling experience is pitiful, even with new bits. A faster drill speed might help.
Ray Balmforth (above) had the most useful suggestion (I think) when he recommended the Flex-Cote instructional video.
Bottom line, you guys have been a great help with suggestions that can assist "newbies" like me. If

I would like to use pre-manufactured cork / composite cork fighting butts on the rods I build. These do not show any holes in the end after completion. However, I have not been able to enlarge the hole to the rod butt maximum diameter so that quality work if shown. I seldom build multi-piece rods, & I cannot turn the completed rod on a lathe.
Can anyone share with me how to ream these &

Anyone have any experience with adding color and /or glitter to U-40 Perma Gloss? I want to paint some “show†rods with two colors and if practical, add some “sparkle†to the butt suction. A client wants a solid graphite blank for an 8-ft rod for catish. I can find information about the Lipper line of solid fiberglass rods but not a place to purchase the blanks. Has anyone got information on solid graphite blanks besides Mud Hole's line of ice fishing blanks?
The latest post I found for the Lipper / solid graphite rods was dated 2007.
