The gathering is just 4 weeks away, and here is some of what we have planned; Tables will be set up and manned for a couple of hours. After that you will just have to grab the person you need information from. Greg Hromiko will guide us through basic rod building. This will be good as we have two new builders coming and we will build a rod from start to finish. (Well, actually minus the fin

I mix mechanically so I seldom have bubbles, If I do, I use the Bubble Buster from Mud Hole. It is inexpensive and it works good. If I were to use a flame, I would hold it to the side of the rod and blow on the flame towards the rod. Bill

I agree with Don. Don`t let that deter you because it is worth the time and the effort it takes. After it is over you realize every one had a good time and they all went home with more than they came with. New ideas, New builders who may get together more often, plus may other benefits. My third one is coming up in November. I`m not good at it , but everyone seems to enjoy them. Sen

Lorenzo, I certainly go along with a down payment to cover your cost. I also like the balance paid before doing any personalization. i.e. labels or names penned and epoxy applied on top. If for some reason they would not accept the rod this will prevent you from having to strip it down to sell to others. Bill

See if you can find some one in your are that does wood working. Drilling any other way is a risk as far as I`m concerned. How would everything stay perfectly lined up? I bought an old Dunlop lathe thinking I would be able to put a chuck on the tail stock. Now I find out that I cannot. I bought a Rockwell at an @#$%& all set up with a three jaw chuck, face plate, Center spru and 1/2 inch chuck

You`re off to the right start by adding your signature behind your name. I wish more would do that. There are ten of us from a five county area in Ohio that get together once a month and it was all started by a couple guys noticing where I was from, or I saw where they were and contacted them. Two I found at tackle shops. You have to ask if they have any one repairing rods for them, if so

Nov. 3rd is the day for our 3rd Multi State Gathering. Our first two gatherings drew builders from 5 states This one should do the same. It will take place at Gullivers travel Plaza 3 miles South of Canton on I-77. I know it doesn`t sound to eloquent but we checked out the banquet room and it will be very good for our needs. This way there will be no charge at all. Lunch will be on your own at

We were very fortunate to have Mark as our guest at tthe first gathering of Ohio rod builders (ORBS). Mark demonstrated his Technique. It still worries me, but I do it with great results. I`m sure at least a few of the sponsors to the left carry his book. If any one does not have it, you are really missing out. Bill

Chad, I feel I have learned almost as much by hanging out with other builders than at any of the seminars which have been excellant. The coffee and lunch area is a great opportunity to just pull up a chair and start talking. In the hotel lobby for hours after the show or before breakfast there is always some one talking rod building. I have never been kicked out or ignored with any group

With 6 coats, I would sand it being sure to use a sanding block. starting with 100 grit and progressively using a finer grit going to 400 grit. Use a clean cloth to wipe down and apply a thin coat of epoxy. The scratches will dis-appear when the epoxy is applied. Just be careful and you willnot have to rewrap. Bill
