So... I agree with most of the comments - EXCEPT "NEVER".
Nothing in rodbuilding is absolute in my opinion. Can you? absolutely. It might not be the best for different applications, but it can absolutely be done.
There are indeed applications (while not typically use for bass rods), where an entire blank is coated. The Asian rod market is full of them. Japanese saltwater bait fish

If you sand them and they are fine, you have lost nothing. Worth giving it a try.

For some of the old timers that have been on here awhile, saw a pic of Ellis and I today so I went to look up how Ellis was doing. We used to chat quite a bit and he guided me in my boat on Galveston Bay in 2005. Was sad to find he actually passed away in Nov 2015, just a bit over a month after his last post on this forum.
It's been a long time so those that knew him may already know - I didn'

I can tell you that I'll be unsubscribing from their mailing list for sure. Not exactly what I wanted to see when I woke up at 0600 - and didn't have the "My bad" E-mail yet.

Nice... have a MHX rod giving as a gift that this would be good for. Any word when Mudhole will have them avail on the website?

Lived in Japan for several years now, but never got into tenkara. Prefer having the option of having a drag and reel if I need it.

Second that. Even 1-4 in open water and light jigs.

Hmm.... similar to the umbrella rig but smaller. Wonder how long these smaller umbrella rigs catch on for various saltwater applications.

Outstanding... gotta love HF.
Does this work for heavier blanks as well? Thanks for the info.
Hmm... the machine is easy enough to order but seems the wheels are in store only? Need to order online, not in a location can go to a Home Depot or anything. Any recommendation for the carbide wheel for the 6" cutoff?

I'm mechanically uninclined. What is the best way to cut the various graphite tubing from Batson, or the Lamiglas Texalium at home and still have a nice, straight cut? I have some that came as a kit and I need to cut the foregrip section off.....
Thanks,
Phil

Yeah, its unfortunate that old Shimano factory burned down. Could probably build some kick ass blanks on those old mandrels with today's materials.... who knows.
I need to redo my rod sometime, the finish on the top is all coming off the blank. Always wanted to keep it original but really needs to be done one day.

On the flip side, must be a reason that he is asking for that. I'd talk about it with him then give him what he wants. Never know, he may be happier than a pig in the mud with it.

Unfortunate to read. My dealings with them have always been top notch, but have not had the opportunity to deal with them recently. Hopefully its just a bump in the road they'll overcome.

Ah, memories. Those Crankshaft blanks rocked. We used to use the Hotshot series for everything from mooching for salmon in the ocean to catfish in the delta, to jigging for stripers. Very handy blanks. They changed the color, called them Legacy Plus for awhile, then don't know what happened after that.
Good luck on finding any of the old blanks, sometimes its nice to find the original even th

I love the Phenix blanks. FX761-2-B 7'6" 2-6lb. 3wt. 2 Fast 1/32 - 1/4 0.323in. / 8.2mm 4.0 / 1.5mm $86 or MF781-2-B 7'8" 1-5 2 Mod. Fast 1/32 - 1/8 0.346in. / 8.8mm 3.0 / 1.2mm $109
I use the 7 footers myself.

Just received a couple in the mail. They are very smooth and seem to be well built. The locking screw for the reel seat hood is smooth, unlike their CRB painted seats I received where the screw lock for the hood is a bit tight, if that makes any sense to you.

Thanks for the info guys, think I'll save the funds since I already have the jumbo thread carriage. If folks said it was a big improvement I'd have probably picked it up, thanks for saving the dissapointment.

Any feedback on this carriage for the CPW? Worth the money? Thanks.

I would go Curado over Daiwa Coastal. The 300 will give you the extra capacity for when you do hook that big bull.
On a side note- careful yanking those peanuts into the boat. Last ER hook removal trip I had was due to a 3-4lb peanut popping off the hook as I lifted him onto the bow and sent treble deep into hand.

Don't feel bad. I had similar results each of the three or so times I tried my mixer, Seems like a no brainer on using it but to me was more effort than it was worth with poor results. Again, that was my luck. I just mix by hand now- pretty foolproof.

NFC has quite a few blanks with those specs as well. You may also want to consider Phenix, they have been my favorite trout blanks lately.

I have two of the Elixer rods and they are fairly crisp but bend a good ways, not a fast powered blank by any means. I liked them enought that I use them for bonefish and have landed golden trevally to about 8lbs on one. I would put them against any of my high end trout stuff.
Not sure what lures you plan on working, but if the Mirage is anything like the Elixer blanks, I doubt you'll be diss

Rick,
Yeah, I got some of the extras as well with my CPW. Regretted getting the drying motor as I never use it and use a seperated rod dryer. The upgraded chuck was a definite bonus and I changed the foot pedal out as well.
Problem is my upgrade CPW costs about the base price for a Renzetti. Purchase and start upgrading a Renzetti and I'd probably have been divorced. :)

Angler's Workshop. I have one and love it. Sometimes think maybe should have sprung extra for the Renzetti, but then again it was a Christmas present from the wife and she would have probably left me if I told her I wanted the Renzetti instead. ;)
