IMHO cork is now obsolete for grips and handles. Thanks to Andy and Tom for the articles on the coverings and cores. I can see a lot of tinkering will be going on around my house in the next few weeks. Really great stuff and sure to change the direction of custom and maybe even factory rods for all time.

The numbers used on factory fly rods are not based on any standardized system. They are sort of helter skelter IMO and based on the invidual personal preferences of the designer. The CCS figures will be concrete and consistent across the board on all rods you measure.

If the choice on tip color is just two, black or clear, then I would vote for black. Clear looks cheap to me.

My spiral wrap rods have guides set at 0, 60, 120 and 180 degrees over about 12" distance. I don't know if these are Roberts or Revolver rods. Doesn't really matter to me. I strung a line out and tied off and pulled. The first 180 guides don't load until the flex in the rod is back about halfway. A pretty good load by then. Have no idea if this is supposed to be good or bad but I've used the
