Timothy, The answer to all of your questions regarding @#$%& Spiral wrap is: YES! Rules for IGFA rods: The rod tip must be 40 inches in length. The rod butt can not exceed 27 inches in length. These measurement must be made from a point directly beneath the center of the reel. A curved butt is measured in a straight line and this measurement shall not exceed 27 inches. None of the abov

Spencer is absolutely right. Plastic gutter downspout is the way to go. WHY? because it is much lighter and has a square cross-section, which resist bending far more the a circular cross-section. Rena

Fred, FYI : Any and all rod building motors that are speed controlled with a foot pedal, are absolutely a DC motors, and the direction of rotation can be reversed if you know how to do it. Fred, your motor can be reversed by getting access to the internal wires that are connected to the motor's brushes. Certain types of AC motors can be speed controlled, but never with a simple foot pedal

Roger Wilson, The reference source for aluminum channel, as suggested by Thomas Barry below, does not have the necessary rail for guiding the thread carriage, which is almost mandatory, if you want to wrap long sections of rod blank. Rena

You can not make a spiral wrapped rod with AFTCO lightweight roller guides. The only roller guides that will work with spiral wrap, are made by All American Guides, who are listed on the left as a sponsor of RodBuilding.org Rena

Al, Nail or glue two pieces of wood together to make an L bracket. Then put a finishing nail covered with plastic tubing, or tape (sized to fit into your tip top eye) into the wood at the same height of the center of your rod chuck. Then place the pin into the tip top and weight the L bracket down so it will not move. This will solve your last guide wrapping problem. Make sure the pin is pi

Bill Falconer, I went to Custom Tackle Supply and I can not find the foam grip blanks you described in your photo posting. I tried everything possible to no avail. The "Search Function" at that website does not work either. It gives the following error message for everything, including Items listed on the left side of the page, e.g. "Cork" or "Guides" --- etc

David Rogers said "Titanium isn't as strong as other materials" You got it wrong about Titanium. For a given size, as shown below : 1) Titanium is 280/490 = 0.57 = 57% the weight of steel. 2) Titanium is approximately the same strength as steel (40 - 120) v.s. (46 - 162) Titanium Yield Point = (40 - 120)

One definition of telescopic is: "Having parts that slide one within another". To do this, requires tubes that sequentially decrease in size - and that's exactly what the mounting tubes on the telescopic guides do! Hence the name "Telescopic Guides" Rena

Tom, You said: "Steel or wire framed guides are sized per the inside opening. So in this case the number given is the actual size of the opening. These are also given in mm. " I finally found something related to the I.D. of spinning rings on JANN'S NETCRAFT which said that a size 40 ring has a I.D. = 1-1/16 inch; and a size 50 ring has a I.D. = 1.5 inch. I have spent hours on the internet trying to find out the Inside diameter of fishing guides in terms of "inches" or "mm" I know the the tip top guides are sized in terms of 1/64 of an inch. 10/64 = size 10 tiptop ; 14/64 = size 14 tip top; etc.--etc. -but I can not find anything about ring guides or spinning guides. 1). I particularly want the I.D. dimensions of spinnin

Paolo, The steel wood might be catching on the fibers and pulling them out. Try the finest wet & dry emery paper you can find (for example: 1000 grit) and sand the surface. If that doesn't work, then you might try quickly flashing the offending area with a mico-torch. Do not let the pointed tip of the fine bright blue flame, get any closer than 2.54 cm away from the surface of the rod.

Charlie, If your Renzetti does in fact have a bridge rectifier in it, and you want to change the motor direction remotely, you do not have to move (relocate) the bridge rectifier. It is only necessary to rewire the bridge and motor as shown in this diagram as follows: 1). Disconnect the motor wires on the bridge terminals marked plus (+) and minus (-) on this schematic, and then reconnect

Tom, They say women talk too much, and I just confirmed both that and what my son said to me the other day. He asked me, "Mom, why is it that when I ask a man a question, he gives me a direct answer, but when I ask a woman a question, she talks for 10 minutes?" In my last post, I was addressing Charlie Roberts 1st post, and and his subsequent posts, wherein he was concerned about

Charlie, I discussed this with my Dad, who is an electrical engineer, with a lifetime of experience with motors and their control. Here is what he said: If you used the 5000 RPM, 1/15 hp motor instead of the 8000 RPM, 1/10 hp motor, you would get a speed reduction of 5000/8000 = 62.5% which after the pulley reduction used, the chuck RPM is apparently not sufficient for your purposes. So you

Charlie, If I understand your post correctly, you would be better off by incorporating the belt/pulley reduction using the 8000 RPM, 1/10 hp motor. That would lower the speed and give you much more torque than would be possible with the 5000RPM, 1/15 hp motor. This approach would also give you far more precise foot pedal control of the RPM at the chuck. A 5000RPM, 1/15 hp motor is a really

I am not knowledgeable in the subject matter of this post, but readers should keep in mind that the Italians use string and a slurry of water and sand to cut the giant blocks of marble marble in the marble quarries. Tom is correct. Websters Dictionary defines Impedance as "something that impedes". Take a bare rod blank and hold it by the butt. Then have someone tap the tip lightly and the rod blank will vibrate. Then, keeping everything the same, tape a pack of cigarettes or similar item at the point where the reel seat should be and then have the rod tapped again with the same f
