This post is not an attempt to hi-jack this thread, It is intended to explain one of the many ways that rod manufacturers paint their rods. Graphite USA ( GUSA ) has exceptionally beautiful finishs on their painted rod blanks. When I visited GUSA, years ago, (when they were located in San Diego), I was shown how they painted their rod blanks. 1). For painting, GUSA used a dedicated, seale

Raymond, You don't need a spread sheet to get the angles or the width. You can do it much easier by using a drawing program to draw a rectangle that corresponds to the maximum length and width of the decal, (as determined by where the decal is placed on the rod). Then re-size the rectangle to make the shorter side correspond to the smallest circumference of the rod. Make sure that the

There are no instructions or definitions in the download, so how do you use it? It may be clear to people that have made their own decals before, but it certainly not clear to the uninitiated. Rena

Tom Locke, You missed All American Roller Guides. They make the highest quality guides available at the lowest price. AA Roller guides are stainless steel, which is far superior to plated brass or aluminum, as sold by the other companies you mentioned. In addition, AA Roller guides have sufficient line clearance to pass large knots and wind-on leaders. These guide come in 11 different col

Roger, In terms of both cost and required performance, The motor you cite is an absolute Over Kill! The $17.00 Gear Motor in the link below, will do everything that yours will do. Its rated at 24 RPM at 24 volts DC and it's direction of rotation is reversible. The 24 volts DC can be supplied by a plug-in power supply, which costs about $10.00. The use of 24 volt DC from a plug-in power su

Bob Balcombe, Click on this link and scroll down to see the FLEX COAT BR72 DRYER, which has the slip clutch on it. It's neoprene diaphragm with a hole in the center. The hole is smaller than the rod butt, so that the diaphragm grips the rod, but will still allow you to manually rotate the rod, Rena

Matt, If you decide to buy the Grainger Shaded Pole motor, which Roger Wilson recommended, call Grainger first and ask if the motor is continuous or intermittent duty. All Shaded Pole motors get very hot and that's why the fan blade is on the motor. Intermittent duty Shaded Pole motors shut off when they get hot and that not desirable for dryer applications. Rena

Scott, Respectfully, Your assumption is totally incorrect, when you state that if you are using an ac/dc motor on ac current, it will not reverse. you can use an ac to dc converter and have reverse direction. most of the sewing machine motors are ac only. All home type sewing machine motors are never AC only, they are Universal AC/DC motors and they in fact can be reversed, that is why the

Here is how to reverse the direction of rotation of any AC/DC sewing machine motor. This type of motor is commonly called a Universal motor because it can be used with either an Alternating Current or Direct Current power source. Click on this link: Read the instructions below the sketches. Rena

I had picked up several and with only a bit of changes was able to fit one of these motors into the saw housing." Would you please tell us where you found the replacement mot

David, A friend of mine uses hole saws to rough cut cork rings out of cork flooring. Then he turns the rings down to the desired size on his lathe. This is made easy by mounting the rings on a 1/4 bolt thru the center hole on the rough cork rings ( made by the hole saw ). Then he chucks the bolt on to his lathe and machines the rings to the desired size. Here is a $6.00 set of eight hole

Roger, Respectfully, I believe that you are wasting your time trying to use a stepper motor for rod wrapping. The reason is that stepper motors require far more and vastly complicated electronic circuitry than the conventional rod wrapping motors. In addition, as previously pointed out, the stepper motor will not give you any more accuracy. Lastly, the cost would be at least 10 times that of

Roger, From the setup shown in your picture, the power supply uses a step-down transformer to step down the 115 Vac to the voltage level required to produce 24 volts DC out of the rectifier in the power supply. The rectifier converts this low AC voltage to a DC voltage, who amplitude (voltage-wise) is determined by the voltage applied to the transformer's primary winding. The reason that

Ted, I forgot to mention that you will not be able to find a foot pedal speed controller that can handle 4 amps! -High power Industrial sewing machine controllers can do it, but they use a completely different technology, which cost as much as your entire power wrapper setup. Rena

Rena Hall
Ted, 1. You already have a DC motor. The motors on all Rod Building power wrappers are always AC/DC. motors. 2. If you constantly have to adjust the speed, then something is obviously wrong with the motor or foot pedal, but it is definitely not related to the fact that it is an AC/DC motor. I recommend that you check your foot pedal by trying it on someone else's machine and ditto with the
