61. Re: GlassCoat
Personally,I think it's the best out there..IF ,you can get it on the rod quickly..it'll start to thicken in 7-10 minutes depending ot room temp. Crystal Coat, Permagloss & Glass Coat are in my arsenal.
Glas Coat:
Mix 50/50..& use a needle to fill the tunnels..then slap ( pun there..be somewhat careful) it on the guide wraps & get it on the rotator. Then apply some GENTLE heat fr

I use 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper under running water after shaping. Another good cleaner is "GoJo" hand cleaner with pumice, again under running water.Asoft bristled scru brush is a great plus.
The red will likely fade soon after serious sun exposure anyway. All my Red grips look pink after a while..a light sanding revives them..for a while.

gotta be... If nothing else..print it on white decal paper...or label paper..stick it & mold over it. An Alps printer would probably be an asset here...I've printed tiny photos & put them in the buttwrap area with good success. No reason it can't be done on a seat insert.

64. My cure..
I use multi piece (300+) EVA grips on Great Lakes trolling rods...& put a piece of hardwood ( ash ,in this case)where the grip rubs the lip of the rodholder ( 12" for Canon downrigger holders). Adds a touch of class, too.

The rod I donated thru Pac Bay
has new meaning. I received word yesterday that a fishing buddy lost his 19 yr.old son in a bombing incedent Friday. I encourage everyone to participate if the program comes around again. THX ....
I will soon build a similar rod to give to my friend in honor of his boy.

66. caution..
I don't think the colors will hold up..unless something has changed in the last 20 years.Dave Bella did a rod with flo. colors & after 6 months the top of he rod had bleached right out. I dunno if the finishes nowadays would protect it ... I doubt it..I know perma gloss won't.
try some tests before building that -perfect rod....

Madeira Polyneon, which folks have been using for some time now,is a 'polyester'. I now see that Sulky and Coats & Clark offer a large line of polyester threads in a bunch of colors.....

Otherwise., if you DO decide you want to be able to print your own on a moment's notice...The..ALPS MD-1000 is perfect...or. the MD 2010 will also do the job for rodbuilders.( less $)...The MD-5000 works, but is overkill($$)
A citizen "Printiva 700' will work but,ONLY with Win 95 &98.
BTW....if you decide to own one of these printers, and your wife/girlfriend is into any type of c

The mylar tapr has been used by rod companies for a couple hundred years. The dang stuff is HARD to get off a blank ! Ever re-do a Berkely 'Cherrywood' rod ? They have it on every guide wrap as a full underwrap. Back when I worked in a rod plant,we used the stuff by the pallet-load.

The favorite for rodbuilders is the MD-1000.( ave. price $150 & up). The 5000 is overkill for decals, and is BIG $$$( $250 & up,up). As Christian said, "dye Sub" won't do decals, you want "Micro Dry".
The MD 2010 will also do the job with some tinkering when you want to print white, and is cheaper( sometimes as low as $75) Metallic Silver & Gold, and white are sti

I can't believe I'm getting back into this, but, is anybody using Madeira polyneon for weaving/color change weaving ? How's it working out ?
I also saw some sulky polyesters this past weekend at Joann's ..a TON of colors there ,too....

I like Glasscoat..a LOT !! Hint..don't be frugal...I mix one batch....do the butt section..get it on the rotator..then mix a NEW batch so it's as thin as it gets, & do the tip section.

Pine is very easy to work..be sure it's kiln dried to get the pitch out . But, I've made casting handles from native northeren hardwoods with good results. I carved them with a dremel. If you have access to some power tools, it's quite fun.
I had a real neat one from a maple burl I whacked off a tree when I was in the logging business, danged if Terri Cheatham didn't catch me in a weak moment &am

I love them cause you can easily adjust the reel position. I REALLY love those Fuji "Cam Lock" rings..a simple twist- the reel is LOCKED. Everytime they have something good...they quit making it !
I did get some old featherweight twist lock rings ..& they work fairly well ,too..but..obsolete.
maybe some influencal person could convince somebody to make such a thing for the gr
