34. blank restoring
i'm rebuilding a spinning rod for a guy and was wondering how i'd go about restoring the finish to the blank after i remove the old guides. instead of rewrapping it using the cone of flight setup like it was originally built i'm using the new concept system so only 1 of the guides falls in the old guides slots.

i really like the cts popping blanks but have a buddy who built a couple of the batson's that he really likes over even his loomis rods. butt length can vary depending on the angler. me personally i like a 11 to 13 inch butt where as other people prefer them in the 7 to 8 inch range so you might wanna ask what the customer prefers or ask the sister which rods he likes best and go off that. i'm b

i love the cts popping blanks. medium light for throwing soft plastics either weightless or on 1/16 and 1/8 ounce jig heads. or medium action for topwaters and crankbaits. the medium light blanks are great for trout especially during the winter when their bite gets extremely light. add braided line to that and you can feel the different type of bottoms and structures your working your plastics th

since i'm buying a lathe already i was thinking the renzetti would be overkill and be overkill on my budget to. i was looking at the flexcoat unit but i like the self centering chuck of the pac bay and american tackle units. i currently have my wrapper setup on an 8 foot work bench with about a foot to spare on either side so i'm kinda limited in the room category for both the apartment i'm at wh

well since it's the new year i think i need to get a real wrapper instead of this hand wrapper. it works fine and does it's job ok but i can't shave cork or hypalon if i need to adjust a grip after it's on the rod so if you had your choice what rod wrapper would you buy. i'm also getting a lathe here soon so i can turn handles so bear that in mind

when test casting a surf rod what do you use to hold the guides temporarily? i have the little rubber bands for my bay rods but somehow i don't think they'll hold up to a pendulum or backcast.
and how much force do you use? do you go full bore or like 1/2 speed?

ok before i've always been able to use the new concept system for the rods i've been building but now with these surf blanks it doesn't go high enough. i've read the library articles and the common cents system but niether seem to apply here so what i want to know is where do ya'll get your measurements for placing your first guides from the reel seat? what's the formula?

chris i agree that getting used to a 50 takes a bit but even with my small hands i can make those baits fly. i haven't measured a cast with my 50 but they're easily over 400 probably closer to 500. i also have a yak for my 4 wides and 6 wides but every setup i own is set to target a specific area and the 50's are for just past the 2nd bar and really it all depends on the time of year to since som

i ordered the big beach( 14' 6 to 12 ounce) and the estuary (11' 1 to 3 ounce) they'll both get casting reels on them. the estuary will get a abu 6500 and the big beach a daiwa 50 shv. the estuary will be for throwing heavy spoons and stuff while the big beach is going to be a bait heaver. robert set me up with guides i just wasn't sure if the fuji concept system would work or if i should att

well i order a couple anyfish anywhere blanks from robert at fishsticks and can't wait for them to show up. my only problem is i've never built a surf rod. finding the spine shouldn't be a problem and wrapping the guides is pretty simple but nobody i know has seen 1 of these blanks much less built on them so i have no clue how to set it up. i'm currently working in fairfield cali so any of you no

well unfortunately there aren't very many builders in san antonio and a couple of them believe everybodies out to steal their business so they won't even talk to you if you say your a builder or wanting to learn. i've watched all of artie herberts videos and talked with andy a few times but other then a couple out dated video's and books and a couple conversations with andy i haven't been able t

i use brake parts cleaner. disolves any type of grease in no time flat, it doesn't leave a residue on the parts and it's 1/4 the price of reels parts cleaner. just becareful of reel handles on penn reels made before 80's. i use it on all my penn diawa and shimano reels and never had a problem with any of the plastic parts except for the older penn handles

how are skeleton seats with an insert going to be a moveable reel seat? seems like it would come apart or i'm not understanding what your saying. when i saw these i thought they'd be great for casting in the low position then moving the reel up so you could fight the fish in the high position.

hey doc i've noticed that if you mix a batch pour it out on some aluminum foil and let it sit there and spread out for 5 or 6 minutes then hit it with just a little bit of flame on the bottom of the foil( no more then a few seconds..5 at the most) most of the little bubbles will pop. you have to be careful with the flame though cause if you use too much TM will almost instantly get hard. i've no

bad thing about power pro is it doesn't stand up to sandbars very well and will start fraying quickly. on my beach reels i use about 300 yards of 30 lb power pro then fill the reel up with mono then add the shock leader. doing it this way almost doubles my line capacity and makes sure the only line that gets anywhere close to a sandbar is the mono which sand doesn't bother anywhere near as much a
