I built a rod for a customer on a gator blank with pac bay wire guides. He is telling me it is making a loud whinying noise when he has a fish on and he is reeling it in. I ask him what type of line he is using? He stated power pro braid. I told him that the braided lines do this. am I correct? Is there anything that can be done to stop it?
Thanks Dale

It's under Michael's pictures but it looks like 4 chevrons one above another and one on each side of those two but it is all wraped at the same time. Looks Great just can not figure it out. I hope I haven't made Michael mad at me I have been trying this for over a year off and on.

He does not want rollers in the middle guides what do you guys recommend? This rod has a Florida State theme so I really want Black and Gold. Should I try and talk him into all rollers?

I have done a few ferrule wraps but I am building a two piece cobia rod. Does the tention or the thread need to be differant on a saltwater rod? Should I wrap it twice once with A thread and maybe once with D thread?

I agree with you Bill as long as the builder and CUSTOMER are happy and the rod preforms that is what truely matters. I like the look something you don't see often. I bet it gets alot of looks! Dale

Steve,
I'm not an expert but I would not cut it down. Those are designed that way and I believe that that area takes alot of force and by shortening it I think it would cause a premature failure. I did not like a sliding flipping stick so I went to a St.Croix 2M710mxf and I love it. So much for my two cents worth. Dale

Thanks for the advise looks like 1 1/2 by 1 1/2 is the answer. I have come across what I believe to be mahogany and I want to size it into turning blocks.
