I appreciate the sponsors of this board so it's not my intent to discourage any potential business for them but............It will be tough to beat yard sales for variety and price. My guess is that It's probably your best source too. Most old, fiberflass stock has been long gone from most commercial interests but there's often a small barrel full at some yard sales.

Here's something that may help. You didn't specifically mention it but on the rods where you've had the problem, is there a "blocking wrap? I build mostly fly rods and I try to encourage the use of the lighweight, single-foot guides but I've also used the single foot bridge guides for some of the smaller guides on casting rods. I don't ever recall that the Fuji feet were much of a pro

I guess my opinion closely follows Mick's. Generally speaking, I normally use CP over regular because it suits my eye but I have no problem with NCP or no CP over regular thread when the situation requires it.
I build more fly rods than anything and I like the traditional, conservative appearance of thread with CP. Each of the threads has a subtle radiance and brilliance all it's own which yo

You'll be fine with A thread. I've built all the way down to 2 weights and the A thread does splendidly. Excuse me if I'm reading something into your post that wasn't intended but, if weight is a concern, you may want to reconsider and go with single foot snake guides on a fly rod that light. It will eliminate a little weight and allow your blank to flex more freely. There's nothing wrong with

125. Re: Epoxy Poll
I have become a big fan of Threadmaster. My previous favorite was LS Supreme and I still like it and still use it (depending upon what I'm doing). If I had to pick one and only one for all round use and in all temperatures, then I'd pick Threadmaster.

How many posts have we seen concerning thread color and blank color and posts expressing some degree of frustration with customers who want a custom rod with no real idea of what they want? Here's what I've started and it's making life easier already.
I borrowed on an idea from a golf pro shop. Golf pro shops have the same problems with indecisive customers so for those wanting their clubs re

Ditto what Mike and Doc have already said. I use CP on most rods I wrap and have never, ever had a problem. All you need to do is follow the manufacturer's directions and allow plenty of time for it to dry (I normally make it a practice to wait 12 hours - that may be a little overkill) before applying the epoxy. Depending on the effect you're trying to acheive, you can mix NCP, regular thread wi

I picked up a Rogue blank for the first time a couple of years ago at the show in Charlotte and was impressed. I built it and sold it to a bass fisherman who has fished it hard and loves it. I have another that I've been wanting to build for myself but have got caught up with some fly rod orders and haven't managed to get around to it.
I'm happy to report that Angler's Workshop, one o

Bill,
I had the same "problem" when trying to remove a wrap over which I had applied Threadmaster epoxy. I tried all of the above mentioned remedies but couldn't get that last little bit of the edge to remove completely. I finally got enough of it off that could re-wrap and just extended the new wrap a fraction of an inch more to hide the edges of the old one and it was fine.

131. Re: Heat guns
I've toyed with the idea of using a heat gun but have never done it. My thought is that there is a good possibility that it will circulate dust particles that will adhere to my epoxy. I have an alcohol lamp but really don't use it much. If I need to burst a bubble, I use a butane lighter and move the flame gradually toward the wrap from the side - never from underneath where any rising smoke may
