Salt water blanks inshore but I’ll check out anything. Don’t know much about blanks. Just getting into building. Want to get a better feel and understanding of my options.

Found a junked old graphite penn rod in the garage and took my 1st crack at it. Still needs to epoxied and some new cork tape. Any criticism welcome

Was thinking one of these? Don’t really much about blanks. Just finished my 1st project which was a rebuild of an old Penn rod.

Building a rod for a friend. Looking for recs on a good Inshore boat rod for Montauk.
Person does striped bass and also deeper water bottom fishing so looking for something that hold some heavy weight in fast currents when in Montauk, but not a heavy broomstick.
Thanks in advance for the help!!

Is there a system to use to tell if i don’t have a sizing gauge?

I don’t use epoxy for putting the grips and reel seats correct? I should be buying something else for that?
Also what size guide tubing should I buy for light tackle inshore and striped bass rods? Medium?

Ya that sounds like it could be what I am looking for.
If I wanted to cut the butt down a bit to around 7’ or 6’6” would that effect the action at all?

Leslie, Tom and Evan,
Thank you for the welcome and advice. To respond to all of you at once…. I will most likely be around for a while. I am not afraid to make a longer drive if I don’t have anything going on. I have been a fishing junky for the past 10-15 years and am excited to tinker with customizing rods for myself and my fishing buddies.

Just getting into rod building. Am stripping an old rod to the blank for my 1st project.
Don’t know much about blanks though. Is there somewhere I can go to physically look at blanks or am I stuck just rolling the dice with ordering blanks?
I live in the NY Metro area in Westchester County NY. Would be willing to drive an hour or so.
